Aluminium ringpulls on beach, notch settings etc
Aluminium ringpulls on beach, notch settings etc
Hi, since I've had my Deus I've done three nights on the beaches and tried a new one out too, now with my BH I was getting lots of ringpulls and with the deus I'm seriously up on my ringpull quota already, so I've made a program on my deus with the notch set at 49-55 this seems to knock out an example ringpull i had lying around, is there any precious metals that would fall into that range that I could miss? I'm in dry beach mode with descrim at 27, sensitivity to 85, react 3.
Am I slowly getting how to use the mighty deus technology or am I still way off? I know the manual says dont notch out anything but these bloody ringpulls are everywhere I can hardly move 1cm without another target appearing again.

The rings of Gold will come in with a higher ID, but earrings and other small juwel can go low like id 50-55. No good idea what else you could do..

in this game make notch out ringpulls you might as well search eyes only as your notch out small rings and coins hence missing what you really want

I totally agree its not a wise move to notch out ring pulls as you will loose alot of the decent finds as well, not alot you can do really you can go and buy the most expensive detector on the planet and you will still have the same thing.
Although the Deus can be used on the beach wet and dry sand its not the most popular option going, when beach detecting the big problem is things like ring pulls and inland its shotties but we have to live with them, ring pulls thank god have stopped as such,as the ring pulls are intended to stay on the can these days.

If you're ONLY notching out modern 'stay-tab' non-removeable ringpulls, you won't be missing too much in the way of gold rings and cupro-nickel coins. They tend to be very consistent in their ID, and a narrow notch should be possible. If you intend notching old-style removeable ringpulls too, including complete ones, rings only, beaver-tails only, you'll find you've basically eliminated all cupro-nickel coins and most of the jewellery, so I wouldn't recommend doing that.
Your alternative to getting the machine to do the notching, is to do it yourself. Learn the ID's of whatever ringpulls you are having problems with, then use your skills to decide on digging or not.

Cheers for the info guys, will probably do some air testing first before i put it to the real test, don't want to be missing any gold!

the pulltabs are signs that you can find gold... i experienced it for myself with the deus... gold came in at the same ID as pulltabs... *thought it was another pulltab... but GOLD in my scoop...
Thanks bud that's really encouraging! I'm still awaiting my forst golden treasure!fishingdevil wrote:the pulltabs are signs that you can find gold... i experienced it for myself with the deus... gold came in at the same ID as pulltabs... *thought it was another pulltab... but GOLD in my scoop...

On a US forum I use, there was a topic on jewellery finds from beaches. It seems that 70% of the rings were ladies ones. Ladies rings tend to be much lighter than mens, say 2 grams versus 5 grams. This makes them read much lower down the 'conductivity scale', typically below the non-removeable tab reading, easily reading the same as an old cupro-nickel sixpence. Make sure you're not ignoring such low-conductivity targets, thinking they're aluminium foil etc.
It's also worth pointing out that 'conductivity' readings on the Deus very depending on the frequency you run it at, so don't get caught out if you're changing modes.
Also, this Dan Hughes podcast on the ringpull problem is worth reading:

Most of the readings on their site are what I experienced.. but I did find a MAN GOLD wedding band in the 70s... (I still can't figure how that happened) so, best is still to dig them all if it sounds good
