Back home I headed for Clacton (always manage to find something there) arriving at 7.50a.m.I searched along the top of west beach (pier to martello inn) and found a `hot spot` that produced 30 coins in an area of 2 sq yds.Apart from a £1 and 5p all were 1p`s.Heading down to the low tide area I found a couple of pieces of gimcrack jewelry and then along to the pier where I could see signs of some previous detecting activity.Usually a couple of detectorists search under the pier following the tide out and I could see plenty of holes there.Still,I decided to give it a go and see what if anything they had missed and was surprised to find a number of coins there though shortly after I started, the earphones packed up (anyone else had that problem?).Couldn`t make them work so had to carry on without, even so I still managed to find £3.15 under the pier. So,I ended up with 61 coins and 3 bits of gimcrack (£6.32) and lessons to learn???
1.Never drive to Cornwall during a Bank Holiday.

2.Always carry a spare set of headphones.
