Controller Safety Lanyard.

Now there are so many recent Deus owners its worth posting this info.

One of the first things I did was to make up a safety lanyard.

Unlike a couple of unlucky guys, I have to date not lost one and we are talking about £550 for replacement plus all the upset and hassle.

Today,I felt a bump on my leg and looked down to see the controller swinging about on its safety lanyard.

Being in a field with the harvest straw everywhere, I would have had difficulty in finding it and could have walked a long way before realising that it had become detached.

Simple and cheap to make up its worth fitting one. ;) ::g Jerry.

Fantastic JBM ::g I honestly never noticed there was a place on the remote control where you could actually thread one through :-/ :-O
As you say, that control unit costs well over £500 and not to secure in some way is crazy :-O
Its top of my metal detecting list of things to do!

Good idea indeed ::g I knocked mine off getting through a hedge the other day, lucky for me I instinctively check things like that and realized, its still something i will be doing though :D :D :D ::g

I have the old style version 1 Deus... It came with it's own safety lanyard... ::g :)
It has saved my control box a few times now... ::g ;)

Mine (V2) also came with it's own lanyard, I think most did. ;)

To be honest, I wondered what it was until I looked at the manual :D

Good thinking. I fitted mine with last year with a security line from a mobile phone.. Just in case..

Yes, true enough the problem is easily rectified by this diy device, but it strikes me that a machine costing £1200 or so should never have got through the research and development stage let alone the quality control/field testing trials. rl; rl; The potential loss of £500 worth of kit is a serious consideration for any detectorist and I would expect subsequent model updates, to address what I consider to be a somewhat simple design fault which has major implications. ;;z
It seems that the control-box to stem fixing is just not up to the job. There is no denying however, the XP Deus is a very popular and reportedly capable detector ::g ::g but it could be so much better with this matter attended to. Points to note XP!!!
A disservice is no service at all.

Actually The safety string is just to make one feel more safe...I have never lost the control unit, and it is a bit hard to get off ( some other post about this ) So this (my) safetyline was just in case in case in case in case..... hope never happens.. So the negativ about the XP DEUS detector is shot long way over the subject..

Oh it can happen - at least with the magnetic mount from the original DEUS - some tree limb can be enough.
But this is not the problem due to the lanyard- for me a bigger problem is to mount the DEUS remote control in a water protective case while water detecting.

Mine has fallen off 4 times now and I was on here looking to see if anyone else has had a problem. I have now just tied it on. My worse time was when I turned up at a dig and no control box I had the car turned inside out nearly as I know it was on when I put it in the passenger side. After about 15 minutes my mate found it under my car just near the wheel ready for crushing when I moved off.
Its better out of the ground and in your hand for the history or monetary value rather than left in the ground to rot doing nothing for anyone.

Using a spare mob phone lanyard with the small loop at the end to attach to the remote.
