Well I've only gone and done it!!

Post by splatter »

After weeks of research and reading reviews and Andy Sabisch' Deus guide book, I've ordered a new Deus with RC and WS4 with 11 x 13 coil, from Regton's =)) .

I just have to wait until tomorrow when she should arrive, and I can start learning all the tricks of this great machine X:) . The wife doesn't know yet, but i'm going to dig the back lawn and create a test bed. (Best keep that quiet)

First real try out will be on Sunday on a club dig in Milton Keynes - Cant wait ::g

I can't wait for it to arrive, it's a shame I'm at work and will have to rush home to give it a whirl.

Just has to be the best switch on and go machine I have ever used. Until you get used to it I would start with one of the preset progs like Deus fast as it comes but then try changing things a little like going to 2 tone instead of 3 tone or try tracking on the ground balance with the occasional tweek to sense and disc. You cant realy do any damage or go far wrong with these little tweeks and once you are confident then you can start going into more advance settings that will open up a whole new ball game. One thing I would advise though is if you have a heavily iron infested (especialy nails) site then don't use tracking as the machine tends to try and balance out the nails with hilarious results lol.

Good luck with your new Deus Simon.
Since purchasing the large coil I have been able to cover so much more ground.
I found a tiny Lizzie half penny a couple of days ago (it was in a large solid clod of earth).
So the machine is just as capable as finding those tiny finds as the stock 9" coil will
I'm no expert but, at some point,... you really should think of getting the stock coil too.
Why ? Two reasons.
Your arm will ache with the large coil. Long extensive sessions and you will be thinking about a harness. There are several types about. I have now got used to using both hands for holding and try and not do more that an hour without a break
The small coil comes into its own amongst those rows of maize stubble where the large coil wont 'fit between' but it also comes into its own on iron infested sites. I am sure others will add more advice but thats how I see it.
The machine itself - brilliant ! Wire free, switch on and go. Don't leave home without it :D
I use the WS4's on dry warm days but now have the WS5's for the cold wet days ahead. They are expensive but they are beautifully made - though you may want to look at Chefs phone as an option...
Good luck !

p.s. I have just upgraded my machine to V3.2 and will be using at Weekend Wanderers this w/end.
Lots of differing opinions about regarding the various versions - but 3.2 appears to have fixed any 'niggles'. Check which version of software you machine is loaded up with o.k.
XP DEUS - V4.1 (9" HF circular coil).
Usual settings: Prog 9 (Hot), 96 sens, 29khz

Grid is 1mm squares within 10mm blocks

John/ guys
thanks for the tips and advice. I am hoping the Deus and large coil will be lighter than my Ace and large Tornado coil, which I got used to very quickly. I am also considering the Chef CP6 phones for the winter, as they are excellent build quality and a hell of a lot cheaper!

Just need to get her out and start learning

cheers

Luv my Deus ::g lightweight, wireless and very customisable programs, dont get stuck with the pre-set programs, make a custom program and tweak it to what suites you, i have the same tones on all my custom progs that make life easier :) good luck, stick with it and when people say their brand detector is light you can just smile ;))

Being an old soldier, I already had submitted a kit request through the "chief clerk" so she was well aware of the cost, just not the test bed, YET ;)

Just a quick query though, the manual states the coil should flash every 4 secs , when snoozing and every second when calibrated. My coil is not illuminated at all and will not show a light when charging.

Does the coil need initially activating, and if so how, or is this a faulty coil? :-/

cheers
