Good evening guys, I hope everyone is well and loving all this rain softening the ground up for digging this weekend.
I've been following a topic on facebook, about the Deus test bed at the weekend wanderers dig, the report were that the Deus won hands down against all machines including the 3030.
The question I have for anyone that was there, what were the settings the French tech guys changed the Deus to, to get the depth?.
See below copied from a thread.............
''Im back from the oxford rally where XP was challenging any other detector too locate the objects buried AND some objects amongst iron ,,,,none and I mean none could match the 3.2 ,,,,I thought I had my machine set up correctly ,,so I tried too locate the 16 inch deep penny , not a sound , so the XP guys correctly ground balanced my XP , tweaked a few more settings , and there it was sweet as a nut signal ,,,its amazing what this machine can find when set up correctly ,,,and goes extremely deep ,,even the 3030 got no signal on the penny ,,,I seen plenty try !!!!!''
then he replied
''ive had the deus 3 years and always had it in manual ground balance ,,,but left it on 90 ,,,had no idea those 2 numbers on the right of screen should match close as possible , I just always left mine on 90 , they were French guys and their English was not so good ,,,so cant tell you exact setting, there was a lot of people at the rally all asking questions , but I got too praise the xp guys they were there all day until after 6pm helping and demonstrating how everything works on the Deus , absolutely top marks too the guys, they worked extremely hard all day ,,and I got 2 free XP caps.''
Did anyone save the changed settings that the XP guys showed?
Happy hunting all
RayRay.

I have never used an XP Deus....but i have been banging on since joining this site about the importance of Ground Balancing your machine, and the problems you can potentially have by buying a machine with preset ground balance.....

I wasn't at this rally but as with most these things, changing settings may not only improve, but can also reduce and perhaps totally remove the possibility of finding things you may wish to find, and it's a question of balancing the settings out for most. If you are only trying to find a certain type of metal then there will always be tweaks for those particular type of conductive targets, but you will be missing out a lot of other 'good' targets in the process. Pros and cons to everything.
I would imagine the conditions there were as close to perfect for their test, flat grass, etc. 'In the field' you will probably never get those conditions so using the same settings may not even work for your type of ground.
I'd imagine they got the 16" with the larger (or the other newer mid-size) coil.

Current setup:
XP Deus v2.0, MINELAB Equinox 800 v1.7.5, GARRETT Pro-Pointer
MD'ing since Sept '11

Still, it does highlight the fact that people don't take ground balancing as serious as they should...
In my opinion...
I don't own a Deus, but i was taught from a young age the importance of correctly balancing your machines....It can give depth and take it away if not set correctly....

Hey Ray, seen this on other sites from guys who attended the dig. To pick up their test coin they recommended 8 khz, disc 6.8, 3 tones, sens 90, TX3,iron vol 0, reactivity 2, silencer -1, audio res 4, notch 0 and manual GB.
However a lot may be missed with such a low frequency. Good for their test bed I guess.

I was on GB85 when i started then i moved to 84/3/2/1 then 80 i may move further down i m running on zero discri and 97 sens on the Thames i did a lot and find a lot of everything.React 4 when its ........clean react at 5 when its rubbish and 2.5 discrimination .There is a lot of sounds and lots of noises,BUT i dont use it on "quiet" field as i dont do fields...........if you go with 2 reac 97 sens and a mininmum of discrimination it should make some difference .
