13 ultimate or 15 SEF??

Post by clint »

Hello all,
struggling to decide on a new coil for the Etrac..13 ultimate or 15 SEF?Been looking at the reviews etc...is the Ultimate deeper than the stock coil, and by how much?Is it more stable? Is the separation better? Is the 15 SEF better than the 13 Ultimate? Is my head cabbaged?Nearly!!Any input gratefully received..

thanks

I have the 13" detech on my T2, its far more stable and definately goes a bit deeper plus its not that much heavier than my stock coil. .. couildnt reccommed it enough.. I have heard they are really good for the Etrac.. cant comment on the 15" sef though as I have never tried. ::g ::g

I have to agree with Ian above. The Detech is a beast on the T2 but I'm sure an Etrac user will be along to give you more useful feedback.

Dont think you can compare the 2 really,if it was say the Ultimate and the SEF12x10 then that would have been a much better match, but the bigger 15x12 will go much deeper than the 13'' Ultimate coil.

The Ultimate coil is much better than the stock coil in terms of depth and also much more stable,i use both the 12x10 and the 15x12 on my T2 and this is my personal view i prefer the latter one,it is heavier than the stock coil and also the Ultimate coil so its worth keeping this in mind.

the 11" pro (stock) is a very capable coil and will find the goods in most conditions but after using the Ultimate coil for about 10mths on land & wet sand i wouldnt go back, it has amazed me quite a few times at how deep it can pick up small targets and is not a great deal heavier than the pro & the extra 2" ground cover is a bonus, as for the big sef i cant comment as i have never used 1.

GL with whatever coil you settle on ::g

It's definitely no worse than the SEF and that's down to the machine not the coil, FBS just don't like fresh ploughed soil end of, especially if you don't run in manual sensitivity.
The ultimate has far better "unmasking" ability than the SEF, the amount of the twin metal items I've found ie copper and iron, lead and iron, shocked me, it almost increases the tonal range of the machine to encompass mixed signals.

The ultimates nice and light and plenty deep enough on my sovereign gt I was on ploughed at the weekend and dug a cut half at good depth and loads of other bits there both great coils I went for the ultimate because of its lightness which ever you choose will be good

i am a detech ultimate user with the etrac . it is certainly lighter than the sef 15 x12 but that is a bigger coil the better comparasion would be the 12x10 sef. but that is heaveir than the ultimate . it is certainly deeper than the standard stock coil as i have been over land done with the standard coil and found targets . it finds cut halfs and quarters so no lose of sensitivity and it found me a gold stater at over 10 inches deep . as for plough no minelabs really like it no matter what coil you have on .certainly would.nt want to use a 15 x12 on plough
