What a great day. Was thinking of going to Filey or Brid today but decided to go on land instead. Might go tomorrow though.

To think that they have been trapped for a couple of hundred years and then suddenly released, great stuff. Back again tomorrow?

I'm having a hard time seeing those coming off a beach. Have you cleaned them? Or were they inside something when you found them? They must have been sealed in something to remain in such amazing condition, or dropped the day before you found them by a careless, stupidly daft coin collector. =)) I've had old coins off beaches back to about 1770 and the copper ones are usually manky, either encrusted or worn down so much. Silver ones can be ok though. You've certainly got lucky with those lovely coins.

I have been an avid beach detectorist for about 23 years and coin collector for over 50 years hihosilver and as you say old coins usually come off manky. If I had not searched Fileylad's beach myself I would have been suspicious as well. But that is the only beach I have had such old coins come off in such a good condition, they were dug off the clay bed that has had sand stripping off the beach for nearly a year now. Believe me they have been dug off a beach.

Not suspicious, I'm just amazed really. If it was me I'd camp on that beach and make sure I got them all out. That's like winning the lottery type luck getting those out in such condition. ::g
