Results From The Strong NE Winds On 10th October..,

Post by Expat Aussie »

Was rather surprised to see virtually no posts regarding the recent strong NE winds (around 40 MPH here) perhaps they were unhelpful re detecting.i made the effort to check Clacton on the Thursday afternoon and found the tide fully in and on the turn.Sea was rough and the tide was higher than usual so for a while I had little area to detect.I noticed that generally the sand depth had increased a little but on the plus side the rough sea had washed away most of the trash such as pull rings. After about 4 hours I had managed to find 40 coins and ok,nothing special turned up,all were modern decimals apart from a German 10 eurocent. :D The following morning I checked out the beach where I find pre-decimals fairly often and could see that again sand had increased but in one area I noticed that the extra high tide had eroded a bit more of the shoreline so concentrated there and found 30 coins in 2 hours.Again most were decimals apart from 2 - a 1943 threepence and a very poor condition Victorian widow head half-penny.

I didn`t try the area you mentioned mega, with the higher than normal tide the area between the pier and gunfleet would be under water for longer.I found most of the smaller denominations close to pier on Jaywick side (using mo discrim) and the higher values including the £1`s on the eastern edge of Martello beach (where the Butlins camp used to be) using discrim.

Hi Shaun last sat the beach was total sand no rocks visible at all ;;z had a couple of hrs only a few bits, Kev had enough decimal for the car park so that says it all.Mind you i,ll still be ther this weekend ::g

Thanks guys for your comments, not much happening on the beaches here at the moment - too calm and anyway,a four letter word called work gets in the way at times =)) =)) In answer to your query opa,I used a Minelab SE Professional with an 8" coil. It`s not the best machine for beaches I know, but still manage home in on coinage ::g
