Well I've been detecting inland for last few weeks, not really getting a good ratio of finds per hours spent detecting so went to beach today,I've been looking forward to a good beach session for a while now but I get there and it was pish poor.
I'm off for next three days and don't know whether to persevere on the land or crack on on the beach. Maybe I'm just having one of "those" moments.

i'd stick with the inland stuff. to be honest I don't need the modern coins I can find on the beach. but the chance of getting something more historic on inland fields is far higher.

just persevere a little, have faith in you abilities and work methodically. all I ever think of is that all I have to do is walk over the items and the machine will do the rest and it works for me!

Wise words Jason. I'm obsessed with finding a seal matrix or a gold coin and my chances are probably greater inland. I've just been on a poor run for a bit. Was hoping the beach would show me some love but it didn't.

Yes , I would opt for the fields while the frost is away another couple of weeks and it will be hard as concrete.

Why not do both, then you can sell all the gold rings you find, plus you can still stick all your hammered and Romans in a draw and look at them now and again...

Well you have the best of both worlds in those detectors, 2 rings up to now, but get that Sov swinging and you might find some more.

There's only two Palm Bays I know of, Margate and Florida I suspect it's Margate. if not I'm happy to carry your detector to Florida for you Hydraglide

I've only been on the beach once that was in Aberavon. South Wales - My Ace 250 went berserk Found a £1 coin and more aluminum than was in Margam Steelworks Went home early....

But I love the fields of Northants - Centre of God's universe... Heaven

Seriously though, we all get bad days... But the good stuff is there All we have to do is patiently work at it...

Hi trappa, there,s arguements for both beach and inland when I started it was on the beach and still love it. I found my roman brooch and sov on the beach and last sat a 1665 turner two pence but my one and only hammy inland so as long as you are enjoying it the place doesn,t matter. plus the next signal could be anything

try a fresh field or diffrent section of beach swing slow and low dig every thing that make a sound on you machine

Well Trappa,
I rarely go to the beach but always enjoy it as it`s a change of scenery and now look forward to it as the Etrac is a doddle on the wet sand.As for inland it seems to be ups and downs..I recently went through a good spell on some pasture with the Etrac I`d done before with little success with the Garret.The grass is too long now so I moved to a maize field that I only detect between crops and have never found anything of interest in it at all...it was like the Somme and yes..found nothing again..but I`m sure there`s bits ther as the surrounding fields have all produced stuff..It`s nice to have some sort of plan but often I`ve changed my mind while driving to the fields and gone somewhere else often with good results..

I would have said try another field,it seems like it will be a good weekend weather wise,i plan on doing a old pasture site of mine that use to have a early market on it,the finds use too be prolific but in the last year have dried up a bit,so my way of thinking is that i need to go slightly deeper as the finds are out of reach of the stock coil,so i am using the Pulse with the larger coil on in,that i hope will rejuvinate the pasture site again
