Its appears owners of the CTX3030 are not cleaning the seal ring hence the leaking. clearly a user issue and not actually a Minelab fault.
Thanks for the link Owain 1405 ::g

Sean Magee from the minelabowners forum lives in the water in Spain all winter with no Issues in fact he is down there now and wont come home till the spring. Gordon Heritage is always in the rivers in the UK and around the world with no issues. Loads of others are using the CTX in water successfully with no problems so its clearly an issue of user error / lack of simple maintenance. Probably the guys who have had trouble havent bothered to read Minelabs user notes and warnings. I use my CTX all the time on land and Ive never had a problem with the seal under the battery coming out let alone come loose. I think its a case of people needing to take more care with their £2000 machines. I have been a Minelabowner for years and regularly come across owners who never think of cleaning their coil covers out even then wonder why they experience falsing when the cover fills up with water and crap.
Minelab will always put right any problems that owners experience, sometimes even out of warranty, their service is second to none in that respect. If its a problem caused by owner stupidity re lack of maintenance then its down to the owner to loose out surely thats fair.

Update:-

Seems the problem was a leak through the battery seal, apparently he did not get it seated quite correctly
Must have been a small leak as he was in the water more than an hour before the problem occured

Thanks for this important update ::g

I think when issues like this happen we need to try and find out first why this issue has happened before making a post to see if it is actually a user issue or a Minelab fault, from a few replies within the topic we can clearly see how something like this can put members / people off buying a high end quality machine when clearly the problem was not a fault with the machine but a user issue :(

Thanks

I take it they were using waterproof headphones and not the ones supplied with the machine .If not the headphones with a standard jackplug will not work. The headphone socket isn't waterproof as it explains in the manual.
The adverts don't make this clear and the the waterproof headphones aren't cheap!
I have one but haven't tried it underwater but I find it à cracking machine.
