Coin cleaning article on semi silver coins

Post by f8met »

Not been able to find this link on here but found this today. From an Estonian University by the looks of things, lots of trials on various methods of cleaning silver and silver alloy coins. Looks like one of the best solutions is dilute vinegar.

Lasers are not recommended!

Excellent information here, thank you for posting it. Should answer anyone's question of how to clean those yellowed silver alloy coins.

just to clarify, the recommended treatment is a 10% dilute solution of acetic acid.

Vinegar is already diluted to around 6%. This should therefore work OK but will take longer to clean.

Can I suggest that the distilled (clear) vinegar is selected and the Malt vinegar is kept for your fish and chips!

All the best and Happy Christmas.
