Hour on the beach this morning

Post by northernmonkey »

Managed to get out again this morning for an hour before the rain stopped play.
The new ultimate coil came up trumps again with a 9ct ring, chain, 1931 sixpence and a few decimals...not a bad start to 2014 ::g

Any tips for cleaning the ring up please, it looks like it's been in the ground a long time as its heavily tarnished and caked in crusted sand....cheers

The hallmarks read...ms&s /375/crown/cat like face/ pound symbol... ::g ;;z

I'm guessing its 9ct but I'm no expert.

Hi NM use this site to try and identify the hall marks http://www.gold-traders.co.uk/hallmarks/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Unfortunately the Pound symbol does not appear on hallmarks it should be a letter probably an L. Gold usually comes off the beach looking the same as the day it was dropped.

Cheers machinist I'll take a look.
After a closer look I can see small amounts of white silvery bits showing through on the inside of the ring?
Once I get my camera charged up I'll post a picture of the hallmarks...its defiantly a £ symbol at the end of the hallmark though?

I just looked at the 375 and automatically thought it was 9k.... rl; :))

Well done on the yellow, a good rub with some silvo wadding will shine it up luvly and take the tarnish off. Only a quid a tin from Morrison's Asda etc
Just a quick note. I've had two 9ct's come of the beach that colour.
