Popped over to our local beach again this morning hoping the sand is still off. What greeted me was a huge ridge of seaweed all on top of the beach. The sand was still off the top of the beach but the seaweed made it difficult to detect. Mind you, I could see that the sand is slowly creeping back up as places uncovered last week are now covered again. But in amongst it all I did find a couple of clear low spots and this is where i found 80% of the coins.
All together I dug 47 coins, mostly crusted decimal but amongst it were 6 pre-decimal pennies, a half penny and two thrupenny bits. Also found a junk copper ring and what looks like a lead round weight. Oh, and a tiny copper shield that looks as if it was a pin badge one time. Was a pleasurable 4 hours, just made it back to the car before the heavens opened up with rain and then hail.

I've just returned from another 4 hour session on this beach before the sand starts to build up again, which it is, I can see the difference already. Was expecting better finds but as its a tiny beach and the local detectorists have been pounding it for years and years they have left the scraggy ends for me. But as we know, the beach is ever changing and we can't get it all. I did manage another junk ring and 23 coins, decimal and predecimal, all in a bad state.
Just to show you how fast the sand comes back I have put a series of 3 photos below of our local beach taken on different days from the same spot.
Beach stripped on the 4th January.
Taken yesterday the 13th January.
Taken today the 14th January.
