Minelab Exp 2 Conductivity tones?

Post by Beany_bot »

Im confused. Been watching videos and reading and people keep saying that Conductivity tones makes Iron sound high and good targets sound low. But my machine is the opposite, Mine is set to conductivity and its the iron that sound low and the silvers and coppers that sound high?

Hello Beany,I run the Etrac in conductive (still learning)..the way I understand it is the conductive tones as well as telling you the type of metal it gives an indication of target size,ie. the physically conductive capacity of the item. For example a while back I found a nice 1846 half crown, this gave a lovely screaming tone which a fence post would have heard! In the next field I found a Silver Denarius about the size of my thumbnail or so,this gave a mellow murmering tone..both coins silver, vast size difference, totally different signals. As for iron it can vary, most gives a higher tone but it`s different..you have to practice digging abit and "get your ear in",stage of corrosion, depth, size, shape can all change it slightly. This is where I look at the numbers..fe 35 I`ll leave it,also checking in quick mask, anything else I`ll dig as good items in proximity to iron can change the numbers and give some good tones.Copper I have found can be a bit funny..standard size old copper pennies,Viccys,Georgies etc. give a similar high-ish tone around the same area/numbers on the display.I`ve found acouple of the big early Viccy coppers that give a massive high pitch signal on the fe01 line with high co50 value..iron can fall in the fe01 line, lower on the co scale but the tone is different.
Confused?Yes I am!!!!
