Scottish beach sites

Can anyone advise on what would be a good beach to head to in Scotland!
Live in the central belt and im looking for a bit of history not gold rings although I would still be happy with that!

My fiancé is from Dumbarton origanly so I may be able to get a little local knowledge.
Was thinking loch lomond but not sure on being allowed to detect there! :-O

be nice up next to st andrews up at crail... some nice old air bases up there etc...

Could be a good shout, although am not sure how you would gain permission!

Such a shame that the town is littered with such things.

So much history in crail too.
