You cant go far wrong with the 4PI Venger, they take some getting used to but they don't miss much.Check out my post from a week or so ago http://www.metaldetectingforum.co.uk/vi ... 12&t=60232.
All found with the CS 4PI. As a tip get yourself some good quality rechargable batteries and always charge them before you go out, on a busy beach the 4 PI will drain batteries quite fast and they run best when they have got good power.

Depends a lot on the beach. I use a IDX in North Wales. Works very well in dry sand. Works well in nice even wet sand. Pops and very jittery in mixed moister where the two mix but usable. Works fine in shallow water but you can't use it to follow gullies as the sides are drier. Found one beaches have a black rock that give a strong signal and can not be detected with this type of detector. A PI would work well here but would be a PITA on a beach full of iron.
Hi all
I use a 'CSCOPE CS4ZX which performs anywhere on wet or dry sand, its a combined Motion & Non-Motion machine with each set by the flick of a switch but I normally hunt 'all meta,l non-motion mode and dig everything!!
My ground balance control goes up to 10 maximum but in general putting it at 3 allows me to work any wetsand I have ever come across. Although lots of these detectors appear to have been sold, I did put a post in the CSCOPE section of the forum trying to get a discussion going from other owners but appears I may be in a bit of a minority.
I paid £27 for the machine and it came with a dodgy coil, luckily enough I was given the correct coil and haven't looked back since.
I also own a whites coinmaster 5000D Series II machine (old blue box machine), I have rehoused the electronics and made it chest mount so now only have the stem and coil to swing which means you can go all day now with it, this works ok on the wet and dry but not as well as my 4ZX.
Really enjoying reading the post and looking up some of the detectors being used, keep up the good work!!
Mark

OK it's not like a PI, but still gets a good depth.
Going to try the Deus soon because a mate uses his and gets good results

I use a Detector pro Wader, either with an 8in or a 10in coil depending on the beach.
Being totally waterproof I don't have to worry about rain and damp.

Nice to see jimnick mention the quattro, I have tried a few from the blisstool to the cs4 pi, all did a competent job but my Quattro fills me with confidence :-) the pi was a lot of digging for nails as well as coins :-(

Deus. Totally underrated beach machine.
If I wanted to dig down to Australia and find some rusty nails (or huge gold nuggets), I'd get a PI machine with no discrim.

Current setup:
XP Deus v2.0, MINELAB Equinox 800 v1.7.5, GARRETT Pro-Pointer
