Underwater PI detector advice

Hi everyone, my trusty CS 4PI went a bit mental on me so i had to send it back to the factory two weeks ago ( hoping i wont be waiting to much longer to get it back C Scope! ) and in the meantime i have been thinking about getting another detector as i have done quite well out of the beach so far this year. Originally i was thinking i might just get another 4PI but realisticly i need a waterproof unit. Before we start the CTX is not in my budget and I know Excaliburs are good and i have used them but i believe there recovery speed is too slow and in iron infested sites they are as frustrating as a PI.
I'm basically thinking waterproof PI and i would appreciate any response from anyone who uses one.
By the way if anyone has an old CS 7 that they don't use anymore and would like to sell, that's top of my list. The Whites Dual Field sounds good but i have read that they vary quite alot from one unit to another, also the 12 inch coil seems cumbersome, especially when working in pebbly/rocky areas. Neither of the Garret machines seem at all appealing, i wont go into details but ,no. The Tesoro Sand Shark does appeal but i've read that it may not be as deep as other units. And lastly there is the Detector pro Headhunter PI, which on paper sounds like the perfect choice but again not sure about the depth or about how tough it is.
If i have missed something out i would love to hear about it or anyones opinion about any of the detectors i have listed. All info appreciated.

I am using a Whites Surfmaster PI that is about 20 years old and still going strong and it is waterproof and has made many good finds. My other PI machine the Crossbow Classic has better depth but is not waterproof as my dropping it in a pool of water proved.

Talking with other Whites users the consensus appears to be that the Dual Field is a step backwards and the previous model the PI Pro was the best one Whites have made but getting hold of one is near impossible.

I have never come across anyone using a Tesoro Sand Shark on the beach in all the years I have detected on them, so that has to say something about them.

Hi Ray, thanks for that, have read that the PI Pro was a good unit but yes finding one is quite hard as people don't part with them readily.Another of my concerns about the dual field was that i
had read that they were not as good as older units. The addage 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' comes to mind. Only been going a couple of years myself but not seen a sand shark in action either, had thought it was because its an American company and not as easy to get hold of here.

but we must find a......

I think the dual is more sensitive to gold as SurfMaster
but a handicap with its coil, double hoops !!

if you are close to tinker, lol
the sealing machine is for me
a Dual Second-hand
headphone gray-gosth
and carbon coil 12 inches or 8 if you hunt in the rocks

I also saw prospectors who mounts a spool SurfMaster on the Dual ....

Note: for SurfMaster, there is a modification to the electronic board
which makes it more sensitive to gold
reduction of delay

I use the whites dualfield but seem to be the only one round here that utilises it, I go under the water with it regularly and never had no problems awesome machine but sometimes hard to dig that deep under water

Thankyou Lejag and Adamhunter for your replies. I'm not sure if i have the knowledge to make that detector myself Lejag but it sounds interesting, i will look into it.
Out of interest what sort of depths do you get with the Dual Adamhunter?

Have a possible lead on a CS 7 UMD. It could take a couple of weeks and i really hope its not a let down.( the deal not the detector). Fingers crossed as i've really set my heart on this unit.

I have a friend who uses for a long time
we find a lot of gold, with

the version with the white disk (as pictured) is best

Davedarcy hi mate if you are after a whites surfmaster pi I have one I can post on this forum it is an original in excellent working order paint chipped with age but fully functional very rarely get the opportunity to beach hunt now due to inland work or anyone else interested in my pi if enough interest ill contact mrix to list the item on the forum
