Anyone detected beaches on Mauritius?

Post by Beany_bot »

Heading to Mauritius in April for our honeymoon. I've checked the laws and on the whole it apears to be ok to detect the beaches. Has anyone detected these beaches and are they productive? I took my detector to Antigua but all I found was a bunch of change. Antigua is quite a poor country though and the locals don't have much. I'm thinking Mauritius might be better as it has many Indian beach goers who tend to wear a lot of gold.

That doesn't compute?

Nah in all seriousness I'm not going to be detecting daft but while she is reading a book lying on the beach I could either be walking up and down the beach, or walking up and down the beach with detector in hand. I think we all know which is the better option! :D

Hi Beany,
That sounds great, I have taken my detector to several canary Islands while on the family holiday, I like you don't like sitting round a pool etc, what worked for me was very early morning detecting till late morning, the beaches are pretty much empty, its cooler, you see some fantastic sunrises, loads of surface finds from the previous night time beach activity ;) .
Here is a link from some metal detecting clubs that went Beach detecting in Mauritius, interestingly there are shipwrecks from the the Dutch-East trade around as well so who knows what might turn up.
let us know how you get on.

Why? It's not as If I'll be detecting instead of going out for dinner or anything. She likes to lie on the beach for hours on end reading a book. I cant do that. So I'm as well detecting the beach rather than twiddling my thumbs. She is more than happy for me to do that. In fact she is glad of it because otherwise I would get bored.
Cant believe I'm getting so much grief for this :-L

hi, used my underwater detector , 25 year old tesora silver turtle in antigua last year, no probs with using it but only found modern coins etc, lots of people swimming and dripping with gold though, i think the hurricane season may be the problem there.

I think its a great idea! and whatever makes you happy is really whats important. Your wife loves to read and sunbathe you love md on the beach makes sense to me.

There's also something exciting about taking a MD to new and foreign lands to explore. Im heading off in june to the dominican republic with my ctx cant wait :)

good luck on the detecting front....wish I was going lol ....I think peoples idea of a honeymoon is too spend the whole time lovingly looking into each others eyes whilst holding hands the whole time ....maybe over dinner in the evening ...but you do have the whole day as well ...and you can only spend so much time in bed
