Looks like a fossil to me.

Never seen on like that. You do all sorts of odd shapes because you don't know at what angle the cross section is. First time a saw a simple shell cut at 45" it had me stumped

Maybe an email to fossilidentification@gmail.com can shed some light

A few questions that will help ID:
a/ what is the size of the object?
b/ are pebbles of similar composition on the beach, or does this stand out from the rest?
c/ is the black substance organic? or have organic origins?

Koala I will send email oldartefact 2"" by2"" it stood out from rest of stones and pebbles /black just looks like black onyx cheers

havent a clue on for flo could be a stone mound or one half of a mould lead production? ::g

just looked again at your item coil and its getting more intrigueing all the time ....ill put my silly twopence worth in ...it could be the mould for the spear of destiny :D :)) will be watching this thread with interest ........ray ::g ::g ::g ::g ::g

Extraordinary object I've looked at it several times & to me it looks like fossilized cloven hooves?
