Beach detecting near Croyd, North Devon

Post by TinTin »

Hi Everyone,
My family and i are having an Easter break in Croyd, my 7year old grandson is desperate to come detecting with me on a beach. I have never done any beach detecting as i live in the midlands.
I believe that Croyd beach is private and not detectable so could anyone tell me where i can go nearby to this area and what permitt i will need. If possible could you also point me in the right detection for getting the required permit as well please.
I will no doubt be taking a pocketful of small change for him to find with my trusty Deus.

Many thanks in advance.

If we are talking about croyde beach in north Devon it is not crown land as stated ,but private as are most of the beaches in North Devon ( see my post regarding woolacombe) however I have had no problems detecting there, I recently spoke to one of the estate employees who said it was not a problem as long as we filled our holes in as he had to speak to someone recently who was leaving holes every where B|
Hope this is some help.

I emailed the owners of Woolacombe beach to ask for permission to detect there while we are on holiday over Easter, i told them that we would fill any holes made and only detect early morning or evening.
My reply came back......

Hello and thank you for your enquiry. We do not normally allow people to use metal detectors on the beach because they regularly leave holes or detect around our food and ice cream vans looking for dropped coins.

However, as you are aware of those problems then providing you do as you say you will I do not have a problem.
