Taking Deus on flights.

Post by claddagh »

Hi Everyone,

I am John and I'm new to the Deus and the Forum, just wanted to know if anyone had problems taking the Deus on flights(Europe), I would put the coil in as checked luggage and carry the Controller as Cabin luggage, I read its best to cover the coil light with tape and bring some paper work to show what it is if checked.
So far had great fun with it although my first day out I was thinking what have I bought!, after 5 years with an X terra 70 the Deus seemed confusing, after the 2nd day out and some great finds I am now converted :D. I now feel with the Deus that I am going to the field with several detectors, just a case of choosing the right one to use. Love it!
Thanks,John

Funny you ask. Just yesterday I flew back to America with my Deus. I usually leave it at my Mother-in-Law's, but brought it home this time. Anyway, I left the stem in the checked bag. The coil, headphones, and box were hand carry. As it went through the x-ray machine, I could see the operators staring at the image, then looking at me. After I told them it was a metal detector, they passed it all through, without even taking it out of the bag.

I have an AT pro not the Deus, but i have traveled with it oversees several times and never had a problem i dis-assemble, wrap coil and control box in towels and pack it all in my check in luggage chuck the shaft and AT Pro User Manuel on top (in case customs opens it they can easily see what it is), never had an issue, either with customs or with damage to detector.

I travel to Spain regularly with a minelab and an xp + garrett pinpointers. All of which go as hand luggage. As long as the batteries are removed they dont ask questions.
