Ground Mineralization Index jumping.
Ground Mineralization Index jumping.
Hi all!
I'm Riccardo, I'm from Italy and this is my first post into this beautiful forum. I'm sorry in advance for my poor english and for stupid language mistakes!
I have a Deus 3.2, I have it since 3 weeks. I have a problem. Have to say that this is my second Deus: first one was sent to the assistance for the same problem (if can be considered a problem) and courier broke it so...I have a second Deus.
The problem is the GMI, Ground Mineralization Index. When I'm on a field it suddenly jumps: if I read for example 65, it drops to 85 and...if I ground balance in the "jumping area", GMI comes back to 65. I saw that it has this behaviour for example on high grass. It's strange and, in this case, tracking can't be used! Because it's a false value! I have seen tons of video on youtube and it seems to be a "normal" behaviour. In the assistance changed the coil and told me it was the first time they were hearing this kind of "problem". In 2 or 3 field my Deus was more stable but...the GMI always "run". Is my second Deus with the same behaviour. I don't think it's a problem of the instrument. But I don't like it!
What do you think about it? Thanks in advance guys.

Thank you very much for your answers guys!
In fields where Deus has this behaviour ( most), the mineralization strenght is low/medium. But composition is: brick, pottery, stone and also grass. Here I can't stick on tracking because the jump (65 to 85) is false. I think I have to go in manual and choose a medium ground value...75 for example. I have used an AT Pro in these fields and I have never had a problem! I don't like this behaviour of the Deus
Anyway I can understand that is a "normal" behaviour of the Deus. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Ricky's
For your circumstances I would use the Deus in GB Tracking though this may turn out not to be the best option so it will be interesting to hear other opinions.

I think this is where your problem is. Brick, pottery and stone will have different properties to the ground providing either a "signal" or "void". The "signal" from most brick and pottery is like the "signal" from the ground itself but often higher. Stone varies greatly depending on it's composition which will vary from completely neutral to so positive it will give you a signal that appears as strong as a metal object.Ricky's wrote:But composition is: brick, pottery, stone

The fact is that also swinging on a tuft of grass the GMI drops! Like Deus was "deceived" in some way.

Hi guys,
today I've been in 2 different fields.
In the second field Deus was stable with GMI between 68 and 75...mineralization strenght very high. No jumps!
But in the first field happened something strange: in manual ground balance Deus couldn't read any value! Spots where I tried to ground balance were clean, no nails or trash. Have you ever noticed similar behaviours?
Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the forum. I have used the Deus since they came onto the market (am on my second) and have often banged on about tracking. I use tracking almost entirely, however, the exception to this is when I am on a high iron trash site like a typical nail infested Roman site. The trouble is I think the machine in tracking tries to track all this small iron and adjust as if it is normal but unsteady mineralisation. So in short use tracking in all but high iron infested sites and then go manual 90 but keep eye on actual readout and keep within 5 points ( so change manually regularly ) hope this helps

Yesterday have been in a field and , in manual ground, Deus in some spots couldn't read any mineralization. So I tried in automatic (pumping): read very very low values...values between 45 and 55!
The ground was clean, no nails or iron. After the Deus told me:"Ground overload".
Has it ever happened guys?

Hi guys. This morning have been in the field where Deus couldn't read any mineralisation. With Deus I took my AT Pro: with AT Pro, in some spots, couldn't make the ground balance. The mineralisation was between 50 and 55. No nails and iron. So, I can say that it's the ground which is not mineralised.
It's weird but...that is!
Bye for now hunters!

Hi everyone...
Are there some new figured outs for this probem?
I have the same problem with my deus...mineralizations jumps many times.
I must use MANUAL setting, because in TRACKING too many noise coming out when GMI jumps on too low value.
I walk usually in terain with combinated mud and rocks.
Thanks for your help and sorry for my english

There's one field I have where the mineralisation readout varies a lot between mid-60s to 90. At first I swapped from manual to tracking but the chattering was driving me bonkers to I reverted to manual at 90. I'm given to understand that leaving at 90 is fine no matter what the actual reading is provided that the ground mineralisation index on the right doesn't exceed 50% of the bars.
When the new update comes out the actual ground read number will be removed because it jumps. But you should only need to ground balance if the mineralisation blocks go past halfway. If you ground balance at the start of your hunt, or if you use preset 90, you should ignore the second number unless the mineralisation blocks start to go up. This is the advice from XP, and this is why they will be removing the second number. Hope that helps.
