Very chattery Deus

Post by TinTin »

I could do with a bit of advice please chaps, The last couple of times i've been out, my Deus on 3.2 seems to be going crazy, It just chatters away constantly.
I normally run it fairly hot but this just too much. It got so bad today on ploughed and rolled that i packed up and moved about 4 miles to another permission where it did the same thing again on pasture and ploughed and rolled.
It makes no difference if i drop the sens down from 90 to about 80, GB on tracking. The only thing that seems to quieten it down a bit is if i drop the frequency to 8khz.
There were no power lines anywhere near and the fields are fairly clean. I did try to GB by pumping but each time that failed, due i guess to the background chatter.
I always make sure i'm well away from anything when i switch on and hold the machine at waist height until it has calibrated.
All the pre-set programs are the same, Basic 1 was a little less chattery but Deus fast went mental.
I'm beginning to think that maybe i have developed a fault somewhere.
Anyone else had similar problems ?

First thing that came to mind was something in the coil cover.
Take the cover off and give it, and the coil a good clean.

I've cleaned the coil and cover chaps, i have found that if i turn the Sens down to around 75 it clears up, will i be missing much at that setting though.... the default setting is 90.

I turn the sensitivity down as low as possible until any chattering stops - normally as low as 75-80 but some fields its fine at 90 I'm confident that I don't miss anything ( I detect slowly and and keep the coil low as possible )I was at the detectives rally last Sunday and I saw a bloke with a deus swinging the coil about 3 foot above the ground x; =))

I tend to use dues fast - hz down to 11 - disc 5 - sensitivity 75-90 ::g

Thanks for all the replies, i just thought it was strange that it was happening on 3 separate fields and on pretty much every program. Most of the ' what settings' topics say to run sens at around the 85 - 90 mark so i was getting concerned that mine was unbearable at those settings.
i like my machine to be right on the limit and just a little bit chattery but this was masking out every high tone with only the iron grunt coming through.

Uncontrolled chatter I had once, starting during a water search and never ceasing again.
Figured, that water went into the electronics and had a replacement on warranty.

Hi Tin tin, I had the same problem with a second hand Deus I bought in good faith
but turned out to be a lemon with the same problem you are describing. I sent it
off to Regtons who confirmed the radio transmitter in the coil was goosed. They
sent it all back to XP in France who out of good faith replaced all broken parts FOC
even though I was not the original buyer and that the warranty had expired. All I had to pay
was P&P. Absolute brilliant service from Regtons and XP. The detector was away for about
six weeks but came back as good as new. Thats why its good to have a back up detector.
hope this helps.

If it's not faulty, then try changing the silencer setting.
Current setup:

My 9 inch coil became unstable in the very way you mention, last year it went back to Regton and it was repaired.Give Nigel a bell and he will sort it for you, My 11 inch coil was playing up i gave it three sharp taps flat on the ground and it has been as good as gold since :-/ i must ring Nigel to see if Alain has found a reason for this yet ::g
