Best to talk to JamieB he swears by it. I have to say I have used it but the visual does not give you the best indication, go for the sounds on the deus because by the time the visual kicks in you've missed all those subtle hammy and other tones eh.

If you fancy a challenge and a better set up start looking into full tones, in my opinion anyway

The full tones, to me, is a bit like sonar. After a while, you start to predict quite closely what the tones mean. When you get the high tone for high conductivity, you have no iron buzz, you check the size of the target, when it's 72 on the target ID with a repeatable 2 way signal that stays constant - I start to think "that's a 20p", especially if I'm on a beach or in a park (where I'd expect to find such targets a lot).

I did switch from full tones to 2 tones today as an experiment. This was on the beach in the drizzle and with the remote control in my pocket to avoid the rain. I felt more confident on 2 tones for noticing targets clearly. It felt simpler, clearer but less nuanced. I think full tones 'sonar' mode is better if you can master it, though. There is a lot of meaning that comes through on full tones once you have some experience of the mode.

I think on a new site where I am looking for areas with good targets, I'd be happy to use 2/3 tones. But if I wanted to run low discrim and use the target ID display to help me decide whether to dig or not, I'd like to use 4/5/full tones to really understand the site and targets through a wider array of sounds.
