Its a good idea in theory but in reality, new members just register and then mostly ignore any guidelines or rules that are there to help them get the best out of the forum. I can understand why that happens, new members are keen to get straight in and start posting and don't want to spend time reading too much. So here we are ..The Ferret wrote:Just an idea for when new members join. Could this link be sent to them so that they know as soon as they sign up![]()
Maybe a template could be made with all the links so they know where to look![]()
It's fine for us old uns but like any forum or website it can be mine field![]()
Mind you we do have the links on the left hand side could another one be added on how to post and upload a photo etc![]()
Just a thought
TF

All we can do is advise new members and remind others who should know by now what is required.
Liam

Thanks for the bumps, its an uphill struggle and all that is asked is for some reasonable photos with a scale, brief description oh how it was found and if the machine and settings are included, thats even better. We don't need any top secret cloak and dagger info on the settings, but there are many good machines in use that will perform a lot better for the members if they know how to set them up correctly. When someone posts a find that has been found using certain settings, then others can give them a try.
There are still one or two members not making any effort at all, so these will be deleted if spotted. Members need to read the HAMMY CODE or similar topics so that they .... and other members, get the most out of the find, Liam

I am one of the guilty ones.
TBH I am very used to forums, so I am not too sure it's a newbie thing.
I have just posted for an I D Request with very little info. Provided by myself, one of the members posted a polite link to this post which prompted me to read, it is now embedded in my defragmented head
I personally think this could well be the way to go. ( a link as a reminder ) it worked for me ! And I am Midland born "Strong in arm - Thick in head" lol.....

One big problem is that we live in the "Twitter Age" and everything we write is abbreviated and in a style that is rushed and lacks information.
Anyone lucky enough to find something that they want everyone to see should have enough pride and satisfaction to make sure that they present that item in all its glory! Liam

I love the ID of finds section & love seeing what people have found, have to agree with Liam & others that to more information you give the more chance of getting a positive ID. Think some people have got it into their heads that when we request more info we are having a go, but that's simply not the case. People spend a lot of time trying to ID finds for others, so in my opinion its not to much to ask for ID poster's to spend a little time filling in the details of find spots, settings, type of metal etc, after all it may give people a clue as to what the item is. Happy hunting to one & all

Bumped for our Wednesday viewers! Its a slow process but the overall quality of the ID requests are improving. Can members keep bumping this during the day to keep it visible?
Those ID requests that just need a bit more info will stay and a PM sent to ask for it but the "wots this?" requests will be taken down, thanks for your patience.
Cheers, Liam

Thanks Bob, the quality of the ID requests has been improving lately, no doubt due to these bumps
Essentially, we need some good sized pics against a scale or a modern coin, as much info on the item, the machine/settings if available, type of ground and anything else that might make the difference to a "Wots this?" post and a really good story, Liam

Hi all, we are still having some ID requests made in a rush and not including the right information. These request posts have been deleted and the posters invited to re-post. Please read this topic as it will add so much to your recent find and will be much more easily identified, cheers, Liam
