First finds of the year

Post by doubledig »

Hi all, I hope everyone's well? Its been quite sometime since my last post. New baby house etc so not had much time getting out. Any how, all settled down now, and it's good to be back.

I finally managed to get out the last two mornings for a few hours. I went back to the same area on the wet sand I was searching last year. For those that don't remember, it was a small patch that was throwing up quite a selection of finds. This included some nice pre decimal, 3 silver half crowns, some Georgian coppers a stunning crotal bell and finally a nice gold ring.

On arrival, there was only an inch of sand above the hardpack thanks to last winter storms. The Duel field got stuck in, and it was finds from the off.

Total over the two tides consisted of a lot of lead, and spent bullets. A very welcome 1933 silver sixpence & 1962 two shillings. One very small and worn copper coin, can just make out some writing around the edge, possibly Georgian?? A solitary button, a very nice small lead figure which I think is a child's toy? And a nice bit of brass with T&W. FARMILOE embossed on it.

Did a quick google search and it said the company went Incorporated in 19th December 1896 so possibly older then that date?

It was great to get back out again. The sun was shining, and the beach did not disappoint and some interesting finds came out.
