Quick question re the Exporer II

Hi all

Took the Explorer II out for the first time at the weekend and heeded all the expert advice by starting in coin mode. Very first find was a 1947 penny at 6 inches so that was nice. Found nothing of any excitement but enjoyed using the machine. After a few hours I couldn't resist giving Gary's flat out settings a go which I'd loaded into User A. As expected it was overwhelming sounds wise but I did get a good low conductive grunt and dug down about 9 inches to find a small piece of foil (exactly mirroring Gary's experience in his video). So at least when I'm more savvy with the machine I can be confident with the settings.

On my next outing I will hunt with just nails X out.

My question is this. Am I right in saying that I can set sensitivity manually to the max 32 but then press the shift button to search in Auto Sens and then the machine will pick the most stable number between 1 and 32?

Whilst I'm learning I want to let the machine do the thinking for me !

My tuppence worth.......

Why use a multi audio tone, multi frequency machine with any discrimination at all?

Open screen, listen to what is iron top left scratchy scream on my SE.

Deep flat/circular iron gives a good tone but the crosshair sticks to the left hand side of the screen.

High conductors (viccy pennys,big silvers etc) more consistent tone top middle to top right.

Alloy/foil low soft tone but crosshair "jitters" half & half off bottom line.

Hammered & fractions of & lead solid tone crosshairs just above bottom line.

Then you also get "mixed tones"....... non ferrous near iron etc

Learn the tones....use your ears jedi!
