Post by klondyke »

hi, can anyone one tell if this is waterproof? I don't want to use it underwater but I do like to dip it into the sea every now and then to clean it, I have heard some say yes it is and some say its not! I have contacted detech but no answer so far.thanks

They're designed to be waterproof, however my experience with them on a Sovereign gt was that they are prone to letting in water along the resin/plastic seams underneath. The first coil I had was brilliant and lasted quite some time until the resin cracked....two new replacements followed, both failed along the center seam,Detech were helpful but in the end I gave up and went back to a sef ;)
If you've got a good one, treat it very gently :))

I asked Crawfords to confirm this for me before I bought my 13" and they assured me it was waterproof. It has had many dips in the sea and has been fine so far but I check it regularly for any signs of the cracking described by slippery - I had a similar problem with a Tornado coil that cracked between the casing and resin and had to have that replaced under guarantee. Obviously cracking here can let water in around the coil windings.

The Ultimate should come with 2 years warranty which should give you some peace of mind, but keep an eye on the base. Good luck ::g
