Ring Pulls
I''m new to MD and the Deus. I am successfully missing all of the iron with the GM Power mode but keep on digging countless foil, ring pulls and cans. Can I discriminate against them at the same time as the iron using the notch function?
Equinox 800 - 6 coil - MX25 probe
XP Deus - WS4 Backphones - 9HF, 11 & 13x11 Coils - Mi6
Whites TRX Probe

Detectors find items based on their position on the conductivity scale and amount of discrimination used....
Unfortunately ring pulls, silver foil etc have the same/similar conductivity signature as Hammered coins.
Rejecting ring pulls would also reject a majority of hammered coins.....

Bruce aka Black Adder says it as it is discriminate foil at your own peril however as a Deus owner since they where released believe me when I tell you after a very short period of time your ears should tell you the difference between cans and coins however I nam still trying to find a way to differentiate between the sound of foil and hammies I don't think I will ever get that one

You can notch out most ring pulls by setting the notch to between about 61-71. But as has been said, that will cause you to miss some good finds. I'd only consider using that type of notching on a trashy site with mostly modern finds( e.g. a beach), really.
I sometimes set a notch to knock out ring pulls and bottle tops while leaving the Deus able to detect 20p/50p/£1/£2. You can do this by leaving 'open' numbers 67-89. Test it out on the ground conditions you are in for the exact numbers needed.
I rarely dig under 40 on the beach but I've had jewellery come through in the 50s.
The man who invented the ring pull has a lot to answer for
.
PS I've found that the older style ring pulls tend to give a higher reading than the newer style ones.
