Hi All,
We are off to Dorset tomorrow, staying 4 miles west of Weymouth. Never been to the area before so looking for any advice on where and when to hit the beaches with the detector.
I have the Crown Permit and the area map that shows which beaches it applies too but looking for a bit of local knowledge on times and locations that will not infringe any local bye laws or tourist agreements please.
Any Advice on Weymouth Beaches?

Going to Weymouth first week in October for a short break, (with detector)
we holidayed there a few times when the kid's were young, great place but i wasn't into detecting then. I think i read on here recently that you can only detect after 6pm but this may only be during the summer.

Not a local but ive detected weymouth bay itself and gets very busy at this time of year, search online for local tide times and wait for low tide, I prefered to go early morning or late evening so to avoid the tourists. I only ever had coins from it but its got plenty of potential both on the wet and dry sand.
Yes as mentioned there are restrictions on Weymouth beach, the agreement is no detecting between 9am & 6pm, before or after no problem. Ensure you have your Crown permit! Most of Chesil Beach is out of bounds so stick to Weymouth. You wont be lonely, many of our local club members will be there too. have fun. Mike

Thanks guys, I'll avoid 9am to 6pm then, looking at hide tables it's getting to low tide at 6am in a few so as I get up at 5.30am it is going to be a few AM visits to the beach

Been in Dorset for 4 days and hardly seen any of it due to a stomach bug
Anyway, Chesil and Weymouth beaches are about 10mins drive away and I feel fig to have a detecting session on one of them. The low tide times are not ideal for what I wanted, i.e. A 6pm to 8pm slot or a 5am to 8am slot but I can't change the tides so that's a given.
Would the locals advise Weymouth or Chesil and is it best to go out in the evening or early morning?
Thanks guys.

I managed a couple of 2 to 3 hour visits starting about 6am to Weymouth Beach. I did some wet sand and some dry sand work but gave the shingle areas a miss. Does anyone work shingle ? It is hard work just walking on it never mind trying to dig it
The usual assortment of modern coins was supported by ring pulls, foil and an amazing number of studs and fasteners from jeans.
