I was in my local ASDA store this evening, and noticed a promotional display of Duck brand "DuckTape" in assorted colours, and assorted patterns, like leopard-skin. The ones that caught my attention were bright pink "Piggy Bank" and lime green "Twist of Lime". It occured to me that the pink especially would be a good choice for partly wrapping a pinpoint probe, to help find it when lost. I sometimes use markers to mark findspots and aid pinpointing, they are just 6cm diameter card circles cut from packaging (eg. cereal boxes), and I found bright pink to generally be the most un-natural stand-out colour.
They were all priced at £3 per reel, 9.1 metre reels (not the 15 yards mentioned on Ducks' website):
Here's the Duck website link:
http://www.duckbrand.com/products/duck-tape
Note they also make glow-in-the-dark tape - may also have its uses...

A quick search showed that some sellers on eBay stock these tapes, so they are not exclusive to ASDA.

I hope you find your pro pointer. I used to live in Whitley Bay and I can remember the beach and the massive breakers it could of been washed out to sea by now :(

I lost mine once and was very lucky to find it.

I have a pair of wellies with a strap and buckle and I slot my pinpointer in there. Plus I've attached a long length of shirring elastic and tied it the the buckle and pinpointer. This is the best set up for me.
Its better out of the ground and in your hand for the history or monetary value rather than left in the ground to rot doing nothing for anyone.

I would have kept an eye on Ebay and if anyone in the local area was selling a second hand pointer it might well have been your lost one!

I did Whitley Bay beach a while ago and thought it was very poor by the way! :-L

A few years back I made up a bungee and now most of our folks use one like it.

NO more lost probes. ;) ::g Jerry.

Very true but still some relevant replies regarding security attachments and lanyards which will help others stop losing their pointers ::g

Thanks for the update foci and sorry you never found your original pointer :(

Yes definitely washed out to sea and after this length of time. And after checking the tidal maps and charts I have tracked it to the Solomon Isles for you :D

Would a pro pointer even come up as a diggable signal on the beach :-/
More than likely it would sound like scrap and not be dug up anyway.

I'm outside Old Trafford and there's a guy burning small effigies of Rooney and selling them to fans. Oh, hang on. It's a baked potato stand.

Buy a pointer; buy a lanyard and save a whole load of heartache!

Having once lost my Garrett ProPointer and been lucky enough to find it again I invested in a lanyard from the auction site on here and have never lost my ProPointer since.

Buying a lanyard was one of the best metal detecting investments that I have made, but wish that I hade bought it before suffering the loss of my ProPointer!

Short on cash; tie a piece of string to it!!! ::g
