I use my vdi all the time as I've found the more the numbers jump around, the less likely I have a good target. I guess that is not infallible, however. But as I've mentioned before, I have dug a nice hammered silver coin where the audio signal was poor. I only dug it when I saw the display showing 54. But scratchy sounding audio. I am curious to know if those who swear by going by audio alone would have known to dig that particular signal. We'll never know!

Amen .. It's akin to driving a car without a speedometer .. It's perfectly possible and you know roughly how fast by the feeling, sounds and scenery you're going but without a speedo you can't be 100% sure lol

I've also had really dodgy scratchy signals in the low 40's that turned out to be hammered next to the same dodgy scratchy signal that showed high 20's that turned out to be coke

Personally, I believe you can't go by numbers OR sounds alone and that by combining the two you get the best of both worlds and a much better mental image of what lies beneath

Go get it. The full version if your wallet can take it. To put it simply I love it. You will too...

Of course you are right, try this... Audio only no display.

Switch the machine to full tones in what ever program you want, lets say Deus Fast, ramp up the sensitivity to 96, turn reactivity down to 2, discrimination to none, zero, nothing! and iron volume to 0.

Now just go with it for a few hours. Yes it'll be quite vocal, but learn to ignore the chatter and just listen for the little repeatable signals in the noise. Dig all of them.

Thats a good way to experience sound only and if you click with it (the noise) then you might just like it :-)

I've only gone and done it, purchased today from Crawfords. Full deus set up 9" coil, ws5's and control box £1109. Good advice and a cracking deal. Thanks to all advise and persuading me, although I don't think i needed much persuading.
