Hi all,

Ive just bought this deus package and had my first outing with it yeaterday.

The first thing i noticed was the amount of chatter but i just put it down to a new machine and a lerning curve. I will have to keep an eye on this as if it keeps up i will be phoning regtons!

I bought a new Deus with 11" coil on Monday. Cant yet get a ground balance and the background noise is constant. Quite concerned now that I have spent a lot of money on a detector that isn't nearly as good as my Garrett. Its on its way back to dealers now so I should hear something early next week but I am hoping its not normal to have pings and tones coming thorough all the time when the don't on my other detector.

Its definitely not normal ... part of the field today was so quiet i doubted the machine was on!! on other areas it was a different matter and pings were coming 24/7 ... coke and stuff!! So assuming your field has empty patches your coil should respond in kind.
If you got your coil from Regtons they will definitely sort everything out for you.

Hi All, I have also had problems with my 11inch Coil recently. (sorry this is a bit long winded, jump to the last bit if short on time!).

Over the last two months my 11inch coil has been behaving oddly. Loads of background noise and chatter, even on previously quiet areas. I’ve have had my Deus 10 months, so have gained a feel for what was ‘normal’, this was no way near normal.
On Club digs, I asked fellow Deus users if their machines were behaving ok, none of them were acting odd like mine, it was cold, but no hard frost. Basic 1 seemed worse, but on other occasions Progs 2, and 3 were noisy. Detecting was no-longer a pleasure.

Reading this Forum (thanks everyone), and speaking to fellow Detectorist, helped me to eliminate all factors. Calibration looked to be ok at start-up (keeping the Coil away from everything), GB was left in Manual mode at 90, sensitivity was turned down to 80(even though some I had spoken to were ok with higher settings), re-starting in the field, no Mobile on, no overhead wires, telephone masts, or steel toe-caps!
Coil cover was removed, and everything cleaned, then connected to PC, and Version 3.2 re-loaded (this was real easy), wiping the slate clean (along with additional Progs that had been put in).
Turning on inside the house seemed fine, quiet, and reacting normally to sample targets. Into the garden, all fine, nice and quiet with the normal behavior, progs 1, 2, and 3 all ok. Then the background noise, and chatter started up again!
Tested with WS4 Headphones only, then controller only, still got the problem, it seemed to follow the Coil.
So, I took it back inside the house, and the chatter died away, and all seemed ok again. So I’m thinking temperature related, 4.5 deg C outside, cold but not frosty.
Final test was sitting the (warm)machine outside, in a quiet spot, and put the WS4 headphones just inside the window......after about six minutes, at 5 deg C.........the chatter started to sound out through the headphones (as the Coil got colder). This can’t be normal?

I have been very pleased with the machine till now, and I must admit to being a bit gutted.
I phoned Mick at Leisure Promotions in Newbury, and took the 80 mile round trip on Saturday, to show him the problem, to get it sorted.
The Coil has now been sent to Regtons to be looked at, and I’m waiting to hear from them. I was told it would be sorted, and delivered back to me by the weekend.........fingers crossed.

Thanks again for all the help on the Forum ::g

Hi, it’s a bit of a worry, but I must admit Regtons have given me great customer service so far ::g
I took a call from Craig, and he told me my Coil will be sent to France for testing.
Because it will be gone for three weeks, they have sent me a replacement for now.

Do you think yours is temperature related?
Keep us posted on what happens.
Cheers, Nick

After reading all that, I'm seriously thinking about not buying a Deus now. I've been using a borrowed GMP and the constant noises I've been getting from that have been driving me crazy, but that's probably partly due to inexperience with it. Thanks for all the information.

Hi Jamie,

I have purchased 3 over the last 5 plus years and had no trouble with them.

To my mind they are the best machine that I ever purchased and I have had some good ones over the years. ;) :) Jerry.

Thanks Jerry. I probably will get one, but it's interesting to find out people's experiences with them, and as so many people are using them, there's lots to be learned.
Cheers.

Hi Jamie, I would say, if you can afford it-go for it!
Life is just too short.
I see my coil problem as a blip, and love everything about the Deus.

After reading about issues with WS4 headphones, I got cold feet, but I love them, and it all has a 5 year guarantee, so if I should have another blip, it will get sorted.
Cheers, Nick

Mine was refreshed but it made no difference, now on its way to France via Regtons who offered 9" loan. Hopefully Xp can resolve issue.
