Some good info there ::g
I am out on some squelchy marshy pasture tomorrow morning and so i will have a good think about what settings to try, using the standard 9ins coil, usually on GMP and tracking. I was last out there about a year ago, for the same reasons as now - other fields seeded or grass too high or little piggies running around. Land borders a river that has a roman town on the other side, so I am hoping there may have been some fording places at one time, will check the contours before heading out. Its the same trio every Mon and Fri and we have a good old natter before and after, always very enjoyable, Liam OooO
PS - Just back in after two hrs in high grass, only managed one hammered farthing ...
Deus, WSi's - In the end we will regret the chances we didn't take, the relationships we were afraid to have and decisions we waited too long to make .. Lewis Carroll

Even though its not my machine I have seen many good finds come out at depth with the 11" coil.

They have been digging by the tone and not bothering with the displayed number.
100% agree with all the above the Deus will get down to some incredible depths . Investigate the iffy signals , keep the remote hidden in a pocket , dig by the sound only ::g and get use to the factory settings before making any changes . I have tried a few other programs but found them not to be as clear as the factory settings and targets were lost in the hole after digging . So went back to the standard factory ::g

This is pretty much exactly what I do and it helps then to get the best from that particular field.
Today I went on some pasture and initially used Gary's cold program (11.7khz, reactivity 2, disc 5.3) but I"m such a fan of full tones that after a while I thought I'd do a little depth test with a half penny that I had found. I buried it at 10 inches and went over it with cold.. nothing! Right I'll try good old Gary's Hot (full tones, 11.7khz, disc 0) but with the reactivity set on 2. This time I got the faint 2 way signal. Then I tried 18khz and it was a slightly shorter signal but still clear. This I then used and was fortunate enough to dig out a nice William III Sixpence. Time for another test I thought so I re-buried it at 10 inches or so and repeated the test with the same programs and adjustments. I did this mainly because it gave a less than sharp signal when I initially found it and I wanted to see if 18khz would improve the signal.
Cold registered it nicely but faintly, Hot on 11.7khz also gave a nice signal and 18khz also but 'shorter' again. Then I changed the disc from 0 to 1 and it disappeared! I have set the disc on 1 on another pasture site not knowing how this would effect the depth but now I'll leave it on 0!
I also then tried the HF Deep and HF programs and HF registered a really crap scratchy signal and HF Deep hardly anything at all. Just a test on one particular field but the results are often intriguing! Thanks for the post and good luck swinging ::g 98;

Just thought I'd share my settings from today, as I was using full tones on pasture but tweaked the Deus to get good depth.
I have been using 2 tones lately, as I felt that I was getting better signal clarity that way, but I just couldn't get on with it at all on my last trip so I selected Gary's HOT (reactivity 3 as normal)
and everything seemed just right except the higher reactivity was limiting the depth I could achieve so today I lowered the reactivity to 2 (silencer 0), and this was better, but with the audio response at 4, deeper targets still sounded fairly shallow. What I did was drop it to 2 and this gave the deeper signals a softer,quieter sound. With the reactivity set lower I was soon digging out coins and buttons up to about 9 inches, even small bits of lead were coming out at good depths including the faintest gnat's fart of a signal, which turned out to be a .22 bullet head at about 5 inches.
It seemed like the best of both worlds, getting a good mental picture of the site and good depth. I had the discrimination on 1, as this cut out a lot of the spitting and made it a lot easier to hear the whispery, deep targets although I've found before that discrimination at zero can give a bit more depth still.

Settings were:
Full tones
Discrimination 1
Reactivity 2, silencer 0
Sensitivity 85 (due to pylons) TX power 2

Audio response 2
Ground 88

Site was nice, wet, heavy soil pasture.

I'd recently said that I wasn't convinced that full tones was the best option for deeper finds but after playing around a bit with things today, I found that the above settings gave the best performance on my site.

Cheers, Ollie ::g
