Thinking of buying a Deus - Few questions?

Post by JunkFinder »

Been toying with the idea of buying a deus. I simply cannot afford £1000+ atm so it will have to be a deus lite! at least for now. :-L Can anyone answer a few questions for me please:

What features do the headphones loose over the remote?

Is target ID available on the headphones? I've heard lots of differing opinion on this?

How much extra depth does the 11" coil give over the 9"

What is the length of the detector in the folded position?

Thanks in advance for any help. ::g

dont have a deus but im sure taking the headphones off to look at the tid is going to be a pain in the bum every time you get a hit, personally i would concentrate on the tones weather they have tid or not.

neil.

What Mr Mole said.

There are a couple of adjustments you are unable to do without the controller and any software updates you need the controller but you can around that by using a friends controller if need be.

Target ID on the headphones yes.

Length of stem : Manual says : 58cm & 130cm.

Personally I use the 11" simply to give me more ground coverage and that is the 'only' reason I purchased it.

AFAIK the main thing you lose with the lite version is the ability to carry out software updates yourself. As this requires the main controller, you will need either to return the detector to whoever you buy it from, or a friend with the full kit who can help you with this.

Regtons do interest free credit .. £60 per month for the full 13" version .. You need to prove a steady income .. Whole process took about 5 working days to sort out ::g

Bear in mind when buying a Deus lite that the ws5 headphones are about £320 worth. You could buy the lite minus the head phones and have the remote instead with wired headphones. Ok its not totaly wire free i know, but if you keep the remote in an inside pocket at least your not connected to the machine. More expensive than the lite but alot closer to the 1k mark surely.

Hi there.
Both headphones give you target ID numbers on their screens when the Controller is absent (Deus lite). I have the WS4 headphones with a headphone adapter so I can mount it on my arm and attach normal headphones too it. I do agree and I go with the tones rather than numbers, however having it on my arm I can glance over to just check and I can change the setting really easy too. ::g

I put my Deus headphone unit in a security card holder and have it on my arm so I can see the settings, you can also get a watch type adapter too that just come out. What ever way it means you can get the target ID's and change most of the setting. Like said before you will not be able to update and change some of the expert setting. However your can change:

1. All pre-set programs, like full Deus.
2. sensitivity.
3, Ground balance.
4. Tones.
5. Volume.
6. 4,8,12,18 khz options on V3.2
7. Coils. if you more than 1
8. Shows Target ID.

So 90% of the time you can have no problems, however if you really want to play with some of the expert setting, and updates you will need the control box. I use the Deus Lite as a backup to my E-trac so for me its fine.

I will however be contacting my local XP dealer or getting a friend to update the deus when the V4 update comes out.

Thanks for all the info guys! very helpful ::g

I was thinking of going the above route, using the ws4 as the controller and using wired headphones. A sort of semi wireless mini deus.

Im using a cscope 6mxi atm, its a tone only machine, wired and quite heavy so the deus seems like a good upgrade.

I am also looking at the deus lite set up as a lightweight detector and like the idea of the arm band connect to proper headphones. Do the ws5 headphones pull apart like the ws4 phones so they can be arm mounted or are they a fixed unit ?

You can't change the ground balance on the lite for example tracking and there are some settings you can't change to get the custom programs like the HF or garys.

I went down the lite route with chefones and then got the controller later.

Just got the light with the ws5 headphones. If I use it a lot I will save for the controller :-)
