HF & HF Deep from October Searcher?

I tried the HF series of programs when they were first published and found that the signals were quite "choppy" and never really got on with them
Odd shaped, holed iron will nearly always give a sort of good high tone, but if you keep swinging and pull the coil off of the target you will almost always hear a sort of "grunt" from the iron on the edges of the signal
I mainly use Gary's hot and disc 1 to get rid of the ground noise, and up the audio response to make the "whisper" signals louder, but don't forget that if you are not keen on Full Tones you can run this program with any of the other tone settings, I am not sure if this would detract from the performance of the program tho as I have not done any comparisons
I will give the cold program another go tho because of some of the comments on this thread

I agree Dave about the HF programs, I found them difficult to interpret! I much preferred Gary's Cold. I love the Hot and have got fairly used to it now but I've found the way it signals some targets really crap. My last two complete hammereds and both Tudor rings gave these crap signals and were only a couple of inches deep! The ground was very dry though so don't know if that was a factor There was iron present on these patches I searched but I'd much prefer to hear good targets sing through a bit more- hence why I like the 2 tone Cold program. I'm not sure that running a two tone program on discrim of one would work though. You can get away with it on full tones because there is a different tone for each metal (conductivity)
I understand though that by using three tones and setting the second one quite low then you could possibly run the discrim that low but I haven't tried it.

I didn't have a Deus in 2014. What basically were the HF and HF deep Programmes?

They were published in the October searcher. I use them all the time and I get on with them to be fair. Then it is like anything, having confidence of change to try something different. I have not done too badly so far this year, 9 hammered silver, 1 milled, 3 silver roman and a few grots all using HF, HF fast with HF deep to check for iron.

I am another who has yet to get to grips with Gary's hot all tones. Maybe this harvest.
