Hello
I've been searching pasture land on one of my permissions and it's really noisy. XP Deus on fast with 12kHz and sensitivity at about 85-87. I normally have it on four tones and GB on tracking.
The land has a strip going across it where I think there used to be a path as you can almost follow it with your ears! Plus there's an old path that still exists in the woods that lines up with it. At the top end there's a Roman road and that's produced the odd Roman find. So bits of the field are quite quiet, but the majority of it gives continuous little beeps and buzzes which I can't seem to get rid of. There are no power lines, so I'm assuming it's very mineralised ground.
Also, I normally prop my detector up against my spade while I'm fighting the flint nodules and clay in the hole (I've resorted to digging with one of those garden tools that look like three claws, just to get round the flint), and quite often when I come back to the detector it's ground balanced down to the mid sixties, then tracks back up to mid eighties again when I start using it.
Can anyone give me any tips on what to do? Do you think it is mineralised ground, and if so, how do I stop the detector going mental all the time but not miss finds?
Many thanks
Jon

First thing I would do is put gb on manual 90 and watch the actual numbers, then when it changes put it to about 4 above (keep it at around 4 above), but stop at 90 even if the actual goes up to 88/9.
What disc do you use ?
I run my Deus mostly with Gary's hot program which is based on Fast with full tones and disk at 0.
This is not for everyone tho as it can be a bit noisy, but if you up the disc to 1 that will take out the ground noise, but I would not go above 5 as you start to loose depth.
Audio Response I up to 5 and what this does is make the whisper/quiet high tone signals louder, but you can't tell the depth of the target (not worried tho as the good signals get dug whatever I think the depth is).
Better to hear them than miss them
Try these few things and see how you get on, but I really would not trust tracking as it can "track" the iron and give you false signals.
All this is only my thoughts tho, but if it helps

If you have the control box, the rectangle gauge which is on the right hand side of the screen indicates the presence of mineralisation. The more black segments the more mineralisation. The more interference.
Manticore, XP Deus 2, Minelab Pro-Find 25 pro pointer, Nokta pro pointer.
Thanks Dave and Giz. I havent been watching the GB boxes but I'm back out tomorrow and will watch what they do, but I'll definitely try Gary's hot program.
Thanks for the advice

No time to detect anymore, but I still get to handle lots of stuff.

I mainly run my Deus most of the time using the 'Sprite'' setting or the 'Cold' settings, using full tones just done my head in,that was not a good time using the machine, but at last i am enjoying it.Alot of folks use the 'Hot' setting and it may be good at what it does but its just not for me.
