explorer se new settings. WOW.

Post by SMELLYJELLY »

Out for 2 hours today trying new settings on my explorer se and omg what a difference. First signal a 1940 shilling. Then my first lizzie hammered and then my first queen anne sixpence love token and a lovely lead dancing figure very old among other bag seals and stuff. Its worked for me today so hopefully tomorrow will bring me more.. not scared to share so here it is. Clear screen altogether but very thin line on bottom blacked out. I always usually hunt in conductive but now have it in ferrous. This way all iron is a low tone grunt and anything else high tone. Fast on and deep off. Sens auto 32 but if you can get a gd manual then go for it. :) good luck sj.

Cool, didn't really want to discrim any iron as there's a lot and the nulling was constant . Threshold just audible and on fast but may try deep tomorrow. Cheers ll . Smelly jelly .

Hello Smellyjelly - Glad to see you had a successful outing with the revised settings ::g But to play the devil's advocate, how do you know that you wouldn't have enjoyed the same success with other settings. :-O
The truth is, we'll just never know!! :D Cheers and good luck ::g ss47

Funnily enough you are now on more or less the same settings that many of us used for the Explorer and now use for the CTX - basically an open screen and sensitivity wacked up as high as you can bear it. You may get some chirruping but the sensitivity and depth is fantastic. ::g

I think running in fer instead of cond might make a big difference as all high tones are gonna be diggable whereas I may have missed some good signals due to nulling and of course the iron tone being the same so unless you've got you're eyes glued to the screen could easily miss a gd one. A lot of my sites are iron infested and it's nice to hear all the grunts with a nice ping inbetween. Cheers sj.

It won`t null if you turn the discrim off !!

Use your ears to sort out the iron.

Thats my point jcm. Im not discriminating any iron so not getting any nulling, now hearing all iron low tones. Out again today with same settings and first signal a cartwheel penny and then a george sixpence and other bits. Happy days :)

Even with a "thin line blacked out" you have some discrim. ::g

Can you take a piccy of your screen?

An SE with with a thin line at the bottom blacked out isn`t running as good as it could. ;)

Hi SJ, I'm a GMP4 and 'Racer' user, I was never tempted to changing to 'Minelab' although I certainly acknowledge their ability ::g Good Luck :D

Please would you elaborate on how to run it as good as it could?
I've been running my SE Pro in Conductive with a thin line up the left hand side plus a small triangle at the top left but would like to try running with no discrim. Do you have some good settings or a link to some to be able to best run with an open screen. Thank you.

No discrim.
Conductive.
Deep on.
Fast off.

"Normal" iron squeals in top left.

Deep iron can give a better audio tone but the crosshair holds on the left of the screen.

High conductors (viccy pennys, musket balls etc) almost sound like iron but the crosshairs are middle top to top right.

Pretty much anything that isn`t iron gets investigated. Sometimes you will get an ironish signal that pulls the cross hairs across to the centre of the screen, that is non ferrous near/next to iron.

Signals where the crosshairs are half on/half off the bottom of the screen & jumpy are (inevitably) foil/alloy but I always dig them.

Normal detecting run Sens in Auto, on a hotspot switch to manual & crank it up as high as is stable.

Volume on the machine is almost maxed out but I use headphones with volume control.

Then learn the targets & what the ground is telling you.......... and I don`t move that quickly!! ::g

Clear screen no discrim or a very thin line across bottom . I run mine in auto 32 or high up as I can get in manual. I would say go fer and not cond as it's so much easier to hear the low grunt of iron and then I nice high tone or mid tone for anything else. In conductive the deep tones are on the bottom screen and high tones at the top and in ferrous your deep tones are on the left side (where the iron is) and high tones are to the right of screen (where your goodies are) .I'm always being told the best form of discrim are your ears and not the screen so clear the screen put in ferrous and you won't need the screen. Just wait for the good tone and see where your cross hair is. Everyone has their own setup with what there comfortable with and this has worked well for me so good luck. Sj.
