Getting the best from my Deus Lite

Post by phil.... »

I've had the Deus Lite, 9" coil and WS4s since February and have had quit a bit of success but I know I'm not getting the most out of it and have fallen into the habit of using the same program I always use and don't really change it.

Program 2 which is the GMP, up sensitivity when I can, drop down to 2 tones, and I suppose the worst is I keep ground balance at the factory preset of 90 along with all the other presets.

What suggestions does everyone have, ground balance tracking? multi tones and drop discrimination?

Like I said, I've had quite a bit of success with it and love it but I just want to make the most of it.

Many thanks and regards Phil

Hi Phil, I've had my Deus lite + 9" coil and WS5's for 18 months now and like you I use the same programme, for me it is Deus fast. The only difference, except the Deus Fast prog is that I manually ground balance every hunt....

The settings I use are....

Deus Fast
Disc: 0
Sens: 90-93
GB: Manual
kHz: 12 or 18
Tones: Full

I can't imagine that you are missing much and I suspect that you are getting pretty much the best out of it. The only other option you have is to play around with the other progs and if you can stretch to it buy a control box :D But as for me I dont't think that the extra investment in the control box will bring you much more success. ( I am ready to be shot down in flames from the purists :)) :)) :P )

I agree that Deus is an excellent machine if not the best.... ::g

Hope my 'penny worth' helps a little ::g

Hi Ace and thanks for that.

I have to admit that full tones drives me mad, I prefer two tones so it's either dig it or not depending on the qualities of the tone, it's amazing what you can glean about a target from the qualities in the tone response.

And I have to admit I've never manually ground balanced. I read the manual and it seemed a bit of a faf so haven't bothered, looks like I need to read that manual. How often in the day do you re check the ground balance, does it drift much?

Oh and is tracking not to be trusted?

Thanks and regards Phil

Must admit i dont like full tones, just use the 'Cold' setting,i much prefer to run 12Khz but sometimes of late have used 8Khz with some good results.

Once these setting are saved in a spare slot just use it basically as a high tech beep and dig machine,i do have controller but must admit i cannot recall the last time i used it,i do carry it with me in the bag but just mainly use the audio through the WS5 headphones, does exactly what i want from a detector,i dont use the Deus shaft as mine is mounted on a Carbon fibre straight shaft that also suits my style of detecting.

Hi Phil, Yes Full Tones is a bit 'full on' but I do like it personally.... I didn't know you could do 'tracking' GB on the Deus 'lite so have always manually GB'd.... It is simple.... Just go to P10, go to GB, pump a few times and note GB nunbers then go to your programme, say Deus Fast and enter the number....

I would usually check GB a couple of times a hunt on the same field. If I move fields then I will always check GB and adjust accordingly....

Hope this helps ::g

Please tell me how you set tracking GB with the Deus 'lite'

Hi Ace and thanks for that, I'll give manual GB a go the next time I'm out.

And with regard to tracking, I think I've been given a bit of duff information, I've just had a good look through the menus and then the manual and there isn't a sign of it! The chap I was talking to over the weekend suggested it and I'm now thinking he has the full Deus but he wasn't using the controller so I assumed he had the lite.....I'll stop assuming :>

I'll let you know how I get on and thanks ::g

Here you go,this video mentions possibly 2 of the most Deus settings in the UK,of course other fols use some other settings.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaT6ytXYXZQ

The 1st description is the 'Hot' settings that use the full tones.

The 'Cold' settings are from 8.45 mins which is 2 tone and the one i personally like.

Of course its upto personal choice how one sets the Deus up,biut i just cannot grasp the full tones.

Oh and forgot to ask, do you feel using the 11khz rather than 18 gives a bit more depth or is there any other advantage, have to admit I haven't really used 11khz

Thanks and regards Phil

I love my T2. I mean, I really love my T2 but I've noticed on rallies that I keep getting 'spanked' by Deus users when i'm on ploughed land rl;
I'm coming to the conclusion that my T2 is a beast on pasture (where depth is important) but perhaps a bit 'slow' on ploughed. Also, the weight issue is starting to become noticeable.
I have a couple of rallies coming up (Jez's and Crewkerne) so was looking at using my Deus and just taking the T2 as a back up.
What would you more experienced users suggest would be a good starting point (re- programmes) to get me going? I'm thinking Deus Fast?
I've owned the Deus for nearly a year but have hardly used it (hardly been out detecting, actually). I really must get to grips with it :-SS

Was thinking of following Jez around (like a little lost puppy) on his dig and getting a free lesson :D ::g
