Deus ws5 query

Post by manicdev »

Hi all, I have the ws4 back phones and the cp6 full cup headphones.
I find that the tonal sound is fantastic with the back phones (sharp and clear), but with the cp6's it sounds sort of muted and quiet and the tones are slightly different/softer if you know what I mean (I still like them in the winter tho, and not knocking them in any way).
My mate has the ws5's and so I thought (as I was looking to get a set of ws5's) that I would try his and see if there was much difference in the tones/sounds compared to the ws4's.
To my dismay they sounded just like the cp6's from cheffphones :(
I was expecting the tonal quality to be a bit like the ws4's.
Now my question to you all is...... Do you find this, or are my mates ws5's faulty in any way and they should be a clearer sound ???
My mate knows no different as he got the Deus with the ws5's and had no experience with the ws4's.
He himself said how crisp and clear my ws4's sounded yesterday when we swapped machines so I could try his head phones.
Sorry for the long post, but I could not find a shorter way of describing what I wanted to say :D
All views and comments are welcome please, as I don't want to fork out over £300 for something that I (basically) already have with the cp6's ::g ::g .

Iv got ws5. havent had either models uve spoke about tho

However my ws5 are very crisp and clear. Good thing is you can crank them up and it doesnt lose quality imo. In winter they are faultless for ear warming also lol.

Dave,i use the WS5 and more than pleased with them and never had any issues with the sound quality, only one minor thing i will say is that although mine are the later version which was to address the WS5 of possibly slipping off the head when bending down to pick up 'gold staters' they wanted to slid off.

I still find i have to use a cap of some sort, but have not had this problem in over a year, have only used the WS4 headphones once the sound quality was superb as are the full cup version, but i feel that they are much stronger in design and i find they cut out most of the external sound.

Never had a issue during the summer using the full cup ones either with wet ears,it would have been nice if you could of taken the controller off the headphones in the similar manner as the WS4 headphones but for some reason they decided against this move.

I guess the reason for the 'crisp and clear' sounds is that you will be hearing the higher tones over any lower type tones. The backphones are open to the elements and other background sounds will drown these lower tones out. With the over-the-ear type headphones the sound waves are contained and less are lost, drowned out or masked by other sounds.

You can always change the type of sound that the Deus gives out as there's an option to change the tones, but perhaps this wouldn't work on the 'full tones' mode, that would be a bit counter-intuitive.

While this may not be the case for the rest of you, with my headphones being in some ear defenders using the original xp backphone speakers in them, if the speakers aren't in line with my ears I've noticed the tones change slightly. But like I say this probably isn't the case with anyone else's headphones, just thought I'd add it. Maybe Roy's speakers aren't situated correctly inside the casing, but I'd guess they would be fine as they're nearly new.

I use WS4 in the summer and WS5 in the winter

WS4 allow me to wear a silly sunhat to avoid developing another malignant tumor.

What I now have to do and using Sun barrier cream is a sensible idea for all detectorists.

Back to the headsets both are excellent in their own ways, but the WS5 truly shut out the unwanted
external sounds. ;) ::g Jerry.

Hi Dave, Although not a Deus user, I do use the Ws3's for my Goldmax Power 4 which are 'on ear type'. The phones are great but also lack the clarity of the standard lightweight 'back-phones' with in-line volume control as supplied with the GM. I've always been a confirmed user of 'over-ear' cans in all weathers and as the L/W 'back-phones' were so good, I removed the headband and mounted the speakers in the ear cups of a pair of Peltor ear defenders. I have to say they are excellent and the sound output produced, even in the confines of the cups is faultless
.
As with all headphones, sound quality is compromised if the volume is turned up too loud. This however should never be a problem because at such a setting hearing damage becomes a real possibility.
Thanks for the post. ::g Regards ss47
