So keeping it simple you need:
Philips Screwdriver
6.35mm Stereo headphone extension spiral cord ( 1m-5m)
Velcro or other tie holder ( optional )
1: You need to remove the handle grip foam either down towards the control unit or up to the armrest ( if you take off the armrest you can then see how to reverse the armrest, this might help if you are in a field and your armrest breaks especially if you do not have the new strengthened armrest see picture below, it happened to me hence my DIY Aluminium rest )
2: feed headphone extension spiral cord into the foam grip and leave enough slack for you to plug and unplug into the units headphone socket.
3: pulling the spiral cord fit the foam grip back onto the stem keeping the wire under the grip ( you could tape the cord).
4 :Spiral the cord around the handle to your required length ( I like enough to reach my opposite to my detector side so in my case from right to left ( notice my custom rest is right handed ergonomic ) and enough to stand up with the unit in your usual ground position ( I place mine on its left side providing easy access to the Pin pointer)
5: Screw back unit or armrest
6: add some Velcro or a quick release type of tie to the socket end of the coil to stick or hold to your person to allow you to disconnect or acts as a release if you walk off forgetting your still wired up in the excitement to show your buddy your find
