Misbehaving ?

Post by liamnolan »

Hi all, one of my club members who has yet to join here has emailed me to say that her machine is not working. She cannot attend tomorrow nights meeting and show me the machine and here is her message;
Hi all, looking for a bit of help with my detector it's a Garrett euro ace. It just stopped working after not using it for a few weeks and when i did go to use it it just made a high pitched sound. I tried changing batteries amongst other things but nothing has worked so im left thinking that its the electricals. So could anyone give me some advice or knows of someone that fixes metal detectors.
Regards
Denise

Any ideas on what could be a likely problem? She will join the forum asap, cheers, Liam :;@

Sounds like a coil/coil cover problem... maybe :-/
She could try taking the coil cover off and then turning it on to see if it's a bit of metal stuck in the cover.
Does she have another coil she can try? Maybe borrow one of a club member?

Thanks Harry, I will pass on the suggestions, its unlikely she will have a spare coil but the coil cover issue is a common one, thanks for that, Liam ::g

As said..do a factory reset. Also check the battery terminals as one side are detachable and can move causing a dodgy contact. Was the detector just tested indoors..ie emi?

Hi Guys,
Thank you all for your advice and suggestions. I have tried a different coil from a friends machine, ive also tried new batteries twice. My machine worked fine on a rally a few months ago and had no problems with it thats until i tried to use it about 2 months ago when i couldn't get it to turn on without making the high pitched screeching noise. It is kept indoors when not in use. It is a year and a half old and should still be under warranty, the problem is that i bought it brand new from the internet and although i sent copies of the receipt to Garrett customer services i was given an email address on which to ask for advice as to where to send it for repairs but the emails i got back are in Italian so i can't correspond with them and it now seems too much of a hassle to persue it. I believe it's the electrics on the machine that's faulty so if anyone knows where i could take it to be looked at i would be very greatful. I would rather pay this way than have it sent somewhere that i might not get it back if this makes sense.
Sorry if this seems a bit long winded but i just wanted to keep you all up to date.
Thanks
Denise

You forgot to mention standing on one leg with finger in ear......

On a serious note, if you have another EuroAce you can mix & match coil/control box to see where problem exists, you WANT the problem to move & by default you have found the problematic part.
