I know it's a trade off using bigger coils as you lose sensitivity on smaller items but surely you must find big old pennies and larger stuff a tiny bit deeper?

I reckon with the stock coil I'm getting about and extra 3 inches over the Ex2, as well as the other advantages already mentioned. It took quite a while to build up to that improvement though. ::g
Good god !! Another 3 inches. I'd better buy a badger.

I watched a Youtube video earlier today where an American chap was digging up silver coins at depth in iron infested ground. Very impressive.

Funnily enough that was about the same improvement that I estimated when I went from Sovereign to an Ex2. It may not seem much but it can make a real difference on some sites especially when you factor in the benefit of a quicker recovery time. I am probably going to have to pass on the next Minelab though because I'm really not going to be able to dig any deeper than I do at present. In fact the digging is the main reason that I tend to use the 17 inch coil only for quick coverage rather than for increased depth ::g
