Has anyone properly experimented with TX Power?

Post by Fris »

I think this value is set to 2 on all the built-in programs. For months I had it cranked it up to 3 on my usual full tones programs. The battery life was reduced by half (or more), and I'm not convinced it gave me any extra depth.

So I'm just wondering if anyone's done any proper comparisons, perhaps on their buried test objects in their garden?

Just out of interest, the preset program 'Relic' is Tx Power 3, and 'Wet Beach' is Tx Power 1.

From what I've heard, there is only a couple of inches at most in it. Tx Power 2 appears to be the happy medium in terms of depth potential and battery life, as also probably suggested by the fact that 8 of the preset programs use that.

However, anyone with a test bed that can do measurement tests, I'd be interested to hear!

Cheers - Rob

Yes and no

I have experimented with Tx power on other machines

Big differences 12 volts to 30V makes very little difference in depth but makes interference from nearby iron worse. Even upping it to 60V only an inch or so on a large coin size object.

Certainly no worth lugging the extra batteries around.

Doubt the difference in the Deus will be much and the effects very minimal.

If I had a Deus I would leave it in the middle except where its trashy and then reduce it. I'd ignore the high setting as battery life will be reduced.
