Very new to detecting here, bought myself a Tesoro Compadre a couple of months back and haven't had chance to go detecting with it yet. I have no permissions for myself as it stands (other than the Crown foreshore and my local council) so if anyone wouldn't mind a complete newbie tagging along with them then that would suit me.
Thanks,
Paul

Hello Paul and welcome aboard the forum. I have to say that the wording in your chosen title is unlikely to elicit any positive replies but Good LuckSharkeysend wrote:Very new to detecting here, bought myself a Tesoro Compadre a couple of months back and haven't had chance to go detecting with it yet.
Thanks,
Paul

I had a permission in March, incidentally March has second to none the best kebabs served in soft nan bread, and it yielded nowt but modern coinage. The problem with a lot of the area is that it was underwater until drainage ditches were dug and land reclaimed. If I can find the farmers details your welcome to try it's about 2.5 hours for me and too far for not much, better for me to stick to ESSEX eh!

There are definitely permissions to be had in that area as I have come across a couple of people who detect that way. The area was drained in the 17th century but March has evidence of Roman settlements around it. Indeed when i went to my treasure inquest there were 2 people who found a roman hoard around March and the town museum is acquiring it.
Good luck on your search.

Thanks for the replies and sorry if my original post caused offence or such. For future reference what would be the recommended format for enquiring about potential buddies and permissions?
I gather there was a hoard found just outside the town of March a while ago and the Fen Causeway Roman road runs just to the north. From what I can make out of the local history, the fenland areas seemed to have consisted of several island settlements amongst the the marshlands prior to them being drained - one of which was March. That said I've not lived in the area so still need to do some research on that side of things.
I keep driving past all the newly ploughed fields and wondering if there's anything in them!

Welcome to detecting and the forum.
Getting permission is by far the hardest part of this hobby, and a lot of people struggle for numerous reasons (plenty of posts about it) and looking for a buddy to start with is a common route, no problem....but I suspect its the "and / or" bit of your thread title as it comes across a bit rude and abrupt, which I suspect was not intended
Its a rare detectorist indeed that will pass over a permission to a complete stranger, and in most cases cant anyways as its the landowners permission, not theirs.

Thanks, I must admit I hadn't noticed the separate thread for permissions - silly me!

I got permission in March too. Haven't been back there for nearly 3 years... There's nothing there anyway... You should get permission easy there as people stops going back there...saxman wrote:I had a permission in March, incidentally March has second to none the best kebabs served in soft nan bread, and it yielded nowt but modern coinage.
