I stayed at Cala Galdana 2 years ago and a guy came every day with a Minelab and wetsuit but only detected the water from waist high and deeper, never the sand, the daily police patrol did not trouble him. Unfortunately I can't say what the legal side is, if no one else comes up with it then the ncmd site may have something or research and contact a club on the island maybe.
Have a good hol all the same, I have enjoyed my visits to Menorca.

Hi bigjohn, I talked to a friend who detects in Mallorca (Menorca is under same law) and he says it's ok as long as you don't detect outside beaches. Countryside is banned. To be at peace ask any local police you see when you get there or call SEPRONA (rural police) +34971526043.
Have fun!
