confused

Post by Crocket »

Hi everyone, i have the Deus light and thought i was coming to turms with it but after two hours out on my permition this morning im confused. In Garrys hot prog my first target gave a nice signal and out came a old coin with no i d , so i had decided to put a 1856 sixpence in the hole to try differant progs the hole was 5 in .I put the coin on edge then put the plug back all the progs i tried including sniper, garrys hot, sprite, cold, and adams hedgefodder and progs 1 to 9 and none gave a dig me signal , i tried with coin half way between flat and on edge mutch the same , none of the signals i would have normaly dug ,but when i put the coin flat i got a great signal of all the progs ,have i been doing something wrong . later in the day i found a silver 1929 florin with Garrys hot 9 in down which gave a nice crisp signal . i forgot to say the progs i have from 11 to 18 was put into my Deus with a guy i know who as the remote . cheers all and any help apprecited .

It sounds like you have not had the Deus very long, if so why are you messing about with all those different programs, if you have just got it then I suggest you stick to the factory programs for a while.

I would stick to the factory settings first.. learn how to fully interpret, and I mean fully interpret, the signals from a single program before chopping and changing .. or you wont know where you are .. let alone where the targets are located...
Regarding the signals ... you pointed that the 6d gave an iffy signal when vertical.. I dont think that this is surprising.. but with years of practice you should be able to draw out the important information which tells you to dig or not, part of which being the numbers.

I would get it reset back to factory settings and then just use Prog 1 for a while as you get used to it.

I think what happened when you removed then replaced the coin would occur with most detectors. Some of the metal will leach out into the soil with the passage of time so giving a "larger" signal.
When you replace it edge on there is none of the previous earth around it to amplify the signal so making it more likely there will be no signal at all.

The advice has been given in the posts above ::g There is no alternative to practice exclusively using a basic setting to gain machine experience. My advice, as has already been mooted, is don't experiment with other programmes (regardless of how good/sensitive/deep or 'magic' they are claimed to be) :-O Practice in a basic programme until you are justifiably confident that your understanding of the machine allows alternative settings/programmes to be experimented with.

Though I'm not a Deus user, I know it is a very competent machine, which, to coin a phrase, will 'talk to you' ..........but you have to understand the language! Wishing you well - Regards ss47 ::g

Try upping your audio volume to say 5-6. Will give u a stronger audio had been running mine on 3 and barely hearing deep signal compared with my mates detectors. No id no. Dont worry about it if it sound good dig it. Numbers will prob appear after first bit of muck comes out x;

This was my first thought before reading the above post. As the Deus has many programs + all the ones available HOT.COLD etc its easy to click around and get a little lost I know.. As said just start in one you are happy with. once you have located a target you can switch to another program and see what that one tells you. I like the hot program myself but took some getting used too. Good luck ::g

I don't have the Deus, just its predecessor, the GMP. It required me to really learn the language as Sweepstick said. I stuck with a simple setting. Even then the sounds it makes for different objects/metals is different according to if I'm on pasture/ plough etc That's quite enough variation to deal with without constantly jigging with the settings. Even now I try to keep things as simple as possible. I dig stuff I think is rubbish,foil, or iron etc every so often just to check I am right and haven't lost my bearings signal-wise. (Which can happen if you are digging a lot of trashy ground).

The ad hoc test you carried out in the field isn't really ideal. Get a test bed set up at home on a spare patch if you want to do this. Dig in some targets , mark and record them, and then leave them to settle for a few weeks of variable weather. Then the results will be much more reliable.

Cheers all and thanks roamingrob & little boot , I just could not understand why I didn't get a signal from any prog but after your post it gives me a better idea . I try to stick to preset prog like basic 2 & Deus fast but l do like Garry's hot and know it will take a lot of getting used to but I have got a few nice silver finds in the last two weeks , many thanks for your comments . ::g
