And I've just posted this on the wrong thread

LOL, I was just about to jump on this top-tip as something I haven't tried! Thx anyway Allectus.[/quote]

But....if I ever did go on a beach, the one setting I would definitely use is - response 'smooth'. :)) ::g

Try it out Grunt. It(Smooth) 'grabs' & holds a good target(non ferrous) amongst any iron noise/chatter.....the most important setting, bar none imo. ::g

Only in it for the ££££'s =P~

Is the .zip file in the above thread the current version Dave? Later in the thread you talk about maybe adjusting the discrimination for a hammy the CTX missed in an air test.

Steve
Yes that is the current version I use, I just add or take away, ferrous coin mode and deep as the site allows. I also run ground balance off most of the time now as gives greater depth. But will need it on in heavy mineralised soil. I try where possible to run with no discrimination it does make a difference to recovery speed and depth. Something else I have learnt is if you are in known hammy ground then dig all those faint scratchy signals, it does pay off for deep small stuff, but depends how much trash is on site.

If you think that you are missing small gold items with the CTX then try a test on the new 5p coins!

I'm using the large ctx coil and the last visit to the beach I saw a 5p on the surface, passed the coil over it expecting a signal (using full open mode) and got nothing! It was in the tiny iron section that is discriminated out bottom right.

Not that I am collecting 5p's but my mates Euro ace found it no problem.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

You can still get the new 5p and 10p iron cored coins with the CTX but they sound like a variation of the signal given by iron cored coppers i.e. an iron grunt with a strange squeak and a meter reading which jumps around between iron and good and doesn't really lock properly. Once you can recognise it it is easy. ::g

That's just the CTX doing it's job....'knocking' them out. Modern 5p coins are steel - try a magnet on one! ::g

..see how you are in another 6 months or so..great advice from A! Yeah...don't use the numbers...as said minerals, iron and other stuff will drag the fe values down although the tone will be good. In the first few months try to dig as much as you can. One thing to watch for are high tones on the top line towards the top right..large silver and copper coins can come through here.
