First detector a beach detector?

Post by tommy78 »

Hi all this is my first real post on here I'm just looking for my first very own detector and as I'm going to be doing a bit of both beach and inland I need advice as I've been looking round I've seen that most people advise a pi for wet sand detecting and my beaches are very tidal and tend to be wet most of the time that is what I've been looking at. so I have a few main questions that i'm sure will turn into ten but we'll start with these

1- will a pi detector work as well inland and on dry sand as it does on the wet
2- Is it possibly to get one for my budget £100 (second hand)
3- am I even heading in the right direction or am I lost already

Thanks All Tommy

Hello tommy....answer to Q 1..2..3..is No....
Pi no good for inland, brill for wet beech
dont think one for a ton would be very deep or of much use.
you need to be looking on this auction site or fleebay for minelab sovereign machine.
great for both wet/dry sand and inland use......IMO...have a look....

Thanks for the replies I had a quick look on the bay of E and I think the soveriegn is going to be out of my money cheapest ive found second hand was £200
so what I might do as I'm going down the pembrokeshire coast next week is focus on a sand and water detector then if all goes well I'll have found some spanish gold and be able to buy another :D

Hi...

If your budget is tight try and go for a Garrett 250 or minelab sovereign if you can... You will will be wasting you your money the ebinger.. It's has next to no discrimination and you will be digging alot of iron.

Yep i'd second going for a Sovereign ...any of the Sovereign range will do your job well. There are very few detectors going for that money that will cover wet and dry sand as well as a sovereign would. The other option is get a C Scope cs4pi and dig it all. You can make out the sounds of iron after a while with one of those but you just need to get used to it. Cheapest i could see you picking up one of those for though would be £150 on a good day. The good thing about either machine is that should you wish to sell it again it will hold its money so you wont lose anything on it.

Cheers

Hi

If you want to believe an "old beech rot", detectors that will work well on both inland sites and beaches, including the WET SANDS, are thin on the ground.

If I were you, i'd wait and save some more money just to buy the right one. Any other cheap solution you look at will bring only disappointment.

Minelabs, Fisher CZ's are the detectors to look at. Unfortunately, they are specialty detectors and they are not cheap, even 2bd hand.

Any entry level detector (Garrett, Tesoro,C Scope etc) will only partially fill your hunting wishes, as they will work well inland and on the DRY sand. You'll have to pass on the wetter stuff.

So, I repeat my opinion, just save some more ££'s and buy the right one.

Cs 990xd works on wet sand ( i think lol )ask carlton commando think he uses one
we bought a fisher f2 after reading a report in treasure hunting mag that showed lots of digging in wet sand , its now sat gathering dust
Was told in crawfords md shop last year that that the old green garrets worked on wet sand you just had to turn down the sense until the falseing stopped , think it was the ace 300 or something
i was offerd it for £75.00 but turned it down and bought the f2 ............ dooooooh
Also v5's are cheap , dont they work on wet sand ?

Happy hunting B-)

I been to the beach once with it so far. Never really did much in the wet, apart from flick it over to see if it went berserk. Im down Devon for the good ladys birthday in a couple of weeks it would seem,so,will get her to give it a proper try while im out in the surf with all the waterbabies puttin my new toy through its paces. I reckon im gonna have a head start on them coin shooters with normal beach tectors cuz i can go out with the tide =)) =)) =)) .
Tell you what though. If the new toy does well on the wet salt sand, wet mud and completely underwater, my 990 xd will be up for swap for that dust gathering ornament as a land machine if you are after my xd ;) :D :D
Oh<before you rush out and buy a beach toy young man, if you can wait till after 10th april,i will put up a report on this chinese md3080 that is a rip off fisher for you to evaluate. It is also a land machine too by all accounts ;)

I'd just like to thank everyone for there advice and let you know that I've decided to give the wet sand detecting idea up as a bad one until I get a bit more cash together anyway, So i'm now just looking for an older second hand machine for inland and dry I've found a couple on the bay of E that are quite old but of a decent brand which should be fit for purpose

Cheers Tommy
