tidal river hunt

Post by russ 1 »

hi,am looking forward to attacking river bed where I live right down to the estuary, fished it all my life, since a kid (am 54 now) been detecting about 5 years, there are some good muddy stoney areas where coins and artifacts may be hiding also sand bars etc,, Im wondering though, as although the tide goes a fair few miles up when it floods, as Im going to be there at low tide, and lots of fresh water comes down, shall I try my whites detector thats got discrimination, or go for my cs 4pi because of salt and mineralisation,.Perhaps its a suck it and see ? I would prefer the whites as Ive put a 4 inch coil on it , fab for in between the junk , and there will be plenty....any advice??? :-/

I guess the best thing would be as you have mentioned VLF 1st then try the Pulse, out of interest what Whites machine are you using and also who makes that small coil ?? I use a DFX,IDX Pro and also a TDI Pro,the TDI would be the machine that i would use for deep wet sand but the DFX being dual freq also works well on wet sand as well.
Equinox 6'',11'' and 15'' coils.
Deus 2 9'' coil.
Minelab GPX 14'' and 18'' Coiltek coils.
Fisher TW-5 twin box.
Nexus MP 13'' coil.
Nexus SE dual 9'' coil.
Whites TDI Pro 20'' coil.

thanks for that,, yes its an old whites coinmaster classic xl111 I normally use on the fields and about, still works fine and good depth, fab for coins.I have 3 coils for it standard 8 inch, a 11,5 inch and a tiny 4 inch these are the old typem but very good.Surprising how much depth you still get with the 4 inch coil, thats why Im hoping I wont have too much trouble ....will let you know...cheers.
